There's this girl I know.
I've known her since we were eleven years old. She used
to call me her best friend, although we weren't really
that close.
She was really funny - whenever we hung out, we couldn't
stop laughing. I
once made a bracelet for her. We tried to dye her blonde hair
blue with pen ink. We came up with the name of her cat
together. We rehearsed to audition for our class play.
As we grew up, we gradually grew apart, but we still talked,
still got along, still could call each other friends.
Now we're both sixteen, and things have changed.
She's addicted to nicotine. She gets trashed at least
twice a week. I've had to stop someone from potentially
r.aping her because she
was so out-of-it at a party.
Once, when she was really drunk and I was trying to get
broken glass out of her foot, she burst into tears. When I asked why, she told me it
was because she wished we hadn't grown apart because she
loved that I took care of her even though she kept smoking
behind our English classroom and getting drunk and letting
guys take advantage of her.
That night, she had to have her stomach pumped.
I don't know if she even remembers that
conversation...
Growing up can be scary, huh?
