By the time I
finished getting ready, it was about 3:45. I slipped my feet
into my black converse and went to go grab my keys. I looked
down at the table where they're usually at and they
weren't there. I tried to remember the last place I left
them and I ended up looking everywhere. I finally found them,
on the hook next to a spare set of house keys. My dad must
have put them there last night. Underneath the hook was a
small shelf and my jaw dropped when I looked down. A brand
new iPhone sat untouched with a note next to it. My dad's
perfect cursive handwriting covered it. "Sammy, I saw a
broken phone in the street when I went to get the mail. I
didn't think it was yours until I tried calling it to
make sure and it said it was no longer in service. Please
don't shatter this one to pieces. Love you, dad." I
smiled slightly and picked it up. I grabbed my keys and was
out the door. I was about to start the engine but a horn went
off behind me. It grew louder as the familiar car got closer.
I rolled down my window and smiled as the pink jeep's
window rolled down too. "WHAT'S UP B-TCH?!"
Nicki's voice shouted toward me. "Hey, I was just
going to see Ryan." "Well ofcourse you were,
don't know why I even asked!" She laughed at her
comment but continued to talk, "well Ryan's at
Charlie's with the rest of the gang now, I left to come
pick you up because you weren't there! But mostly because
there's a huge brawl going down between Tommy and Matt.
Get in and we'll go before it's over!"
Charlie's was a diner in town not too far away and Matt
was the biggest d-ck a town could have. He was what people
would call the 'most popular jock'. Along those
lines, he was standing at 6 4 and could probably crush a car
with his arm. I jumped into her jeep and she turned up the
radio. As we got into town I began feeling a lump in my
throat and the same numb feeling from yesterday. The same
emptiness in my stomach came back and I felt like puking yet
again. I was scared to see Ryan. The wounds and bruises, and
what if the look comes back as he sees me. We needed to talk
and I didn't know what to do but I didn't want to see
him anymore. It was too late. Nicki was pulling into the
parkinglot and getting out, excitedly.
