Saving.

Chapter Two
I quietly opened my bedroom door, sprinted downstairs trying to avoid making any noise, grabbed the keys, and slid the back door open. I ran as fast as I could to the front and got in the car. I called him about 12 times before I arrived at the house. He didn't answer any of them and by the time I was there, I knew why. I parked on the curb and turned off my lights. I was too late. She was on the porch, wearing a robe, her arms crossed. I couldn't see the look on her face from being so distant but it wasn't a smile. Ryan stood so small, so weak. Then it happened. Her arm raised high above him and slammed down with all her force, right across his face. The strength of her hand sent his whole head turning..right toward my direction. Eye contact from what was probably a good 30 feet away, we had. The look in his eyes was unexplainable but sent my mind flying. He didn't hold his gaze very long before another hit. I was frozen, I couldn't move. Every nerve in my body was telling me to get out of the f-cking car and save him from his cruel mother, but I couldn't. She kept hitting him. Punching and slapping like it was okay. He took it all, he didn't fight back. He let his mother attack him like he deserved it. Blood was pouring down his face at this point and I couldn't watch anymore. My eyes filled with tears. Without thought, I leaned forward, screaming. I screamed as loud as I could in anger and put all my weight and strength into the horn. It sounded for about 10 seconds before I realized what I had just done. I quickly shot my eyes toward Ryan and his mother. He was looking at the ground, standing still. His mom starred straight at me with the most disgusted look on her face. Several lights started turning on around us, awoken innocent people, curious of the noise. I still didn't move, but continued to watch them. Ryan's eyes remained stuck to the ground and his mom looked around noticing the awoken neighbors. She spit words at Ryan and vanished inside, slamming the door and shutting her porch light off. That's when I got out. My legs felt weak and the rest of my body was numb. I ran anyway, trying not to think of the physical pain I was in. By the time I was up the driveway, Ryan's heavy head looked up at me and the look he shot me was again, unexplainable. It showed disappointment, regret, and there was evil hidden in it as well. The look made my legs stop moving and I stood there, 6 feet away, starring at him with tears still sliding down my cheeks. I opened my mouth but words didn't come out. The blood continued pouring from his lip and the look remained in his eyes. His mouth opened as well, but words came out of his. "How could you."
