Hold on to Him
Chapter
Eleven
Though I avidly told my mother I didn’t
want to see Brandon, even though I already agreed to date him,
she invited the Jackson's over for dinner just a few nights
later.
After the overwhelmingly awkward ‘Hello’ hug, the
adults scrambled to the porch to drink and smoke cigars, and Joey
and Ashley were told to go upstairs and spend the afternoon
playing videogames.
I tried my best to completely avoid eye contact with him as I
unwillingly followed him to a one-person loveseat. He sat down
and as I moved to take another seat across the room from him, he
jerked my wrist, signaling he wanted me on his lap. So,
reluctantly, I obeyed.
I knew after my leaving him a few nights ago, I had some making
up to do. And I had to make my liking him somewhat believable, so
I rested my head on his shoulder, and intertwined my legs in his.
I felt his lips gently press my cheek, and as much as I wanted to
pull away, I knew I couldn’t.
“So what does this make us?” he asked, taking my
hand.
“What?” I breathed, my voice barely audible. I
didn’t move my position or flinch from him.
“Are we together?” he asked. “Like, a
couple?”
“Do you want to be?” I asked, sitting up and looking
him in the eyes.
He laughed, rolling his eyes. “Haven’t I made that
obvious? The ball’s in your court now.”
I glanced away from him and to the ground. I thought of Justin,
and how he’d react if he found out I was dating
Brandon.
But I knew I had to say yes. “Sure,” I hummed.
“Sure?” he repeated. “You didn’t sound
too sure.”
“Yes,” I repeated, grabbing his hand quickly, looking
to show him any sign of affection. “Yes, we are a
couple.”
He grinned at me, pressing his lips to my neck. I grabbed the
back of his neck and ran my fingers through his chocolate curls,
but never kissed him back.
His lips moved up my neck, to my cheek, and eventually found my
mouth.
I tried my best to fake enthusiasm, to try to feign liking the
feeling of his tongue on the far side of my teeth, but I clearly
didn’t do a good job. He pulled his face from mine and
murmured, “Is something wrong?”
“What?” I breathed, just thankful the horrendous
moment was over.
“That kiss was awful. It wasn’t like our
others.”
“No, I mean, I’m just tired. I guess my mind’s
somewhere else.”
No sooner had the words rolled off my tongue, the doorbell rang,
and I couldn’t get up quick enough to answer it.
And in the doorway stood my savior, Justin.
I'm in a super good mood because I got over my
writer's block and am now 5 chapters into my next story.
I honestly cannot believe how quickly this story is going,
it's almost half over!
How do you guys like it so far? Feedback?
