I've never been so proud
of my mom.
She
works at a private school, designed for children who struggle
with reading and writing.
I never thought much of it, because I
never experienced illiteracy myself.
But then, yesterday, she was talking
to my aunt about this little boy.
He's six, and adopted.
When he was a week old, his mother
overdosed.
No one knows his father...
So immediately, he was placed in foster
care.
For the first three years of his life, he
was abused...
mentally, physically, and
emotionally
by the only "parents" he'd
ever known
all until a young-lady stopped by and
found him
locked away in his room
no teeth
never knowing a doctor.
He was taken away from the foster
family
and adopted by two loving
mothers.
His new moms gave him all the support in
the world.
They got him counsellors.
And eventually, they ended up at my
mother's school.
On Thursday, my mom had her first
conference with the family.
And the entire room was brought to
tears.
The little boy spent an entire day with
his grandfather for the first time...
and when he was asked about the day he
said
"Grandpa has a
cane, but he can still fight off the bad guys."
This little boy is
so absolutely terrified that one day
the outpouring of love will
stop
and the beating will start
again
the mean words.
To some of us, school is teaching the
word "cat"
but to this little boy it's a reason
for his mommies to be proud.
It's that feeling in his heart that
things are different now
and he's finally
safe.
