Ghost of a Superstar.
Chapter
1
My name is Serena
Miller. I'm just an average teenage girl, trying to find her
place in this messed up world. I have dirty blonde hair, brown
eyes, and the usual sort-of-but-not-really tan on my 5'7 tall
figure. I also have a family that you would expect. A mother, a
father, and a sister. My mother is the one that works though, my
father staying at home and doing pratically nothing. He used to
have some sort of job when I was younger, but I don't really
remember how he left or even what the job was. I have a best
friend- well, let me refraise that. I had a best friend. His name
was Matt. He was my best friend ever since we were pratically
born. But then-
"Serena!"
I heard my sister yell up from the bottom of the stairs.
"Yes?"
"Devon seems to be recovering!" I sighed, rolling my
eyes, and lifted my pencil to write some more.
My sister
is just nineteen year old. She lives at home because she
doesn't want to spend a lot of money buying an apartment at
the collage that was only about a ten minute drive from our
house. But, she is obsessed with the seventeen year old popstar,
Devon Cole. He is known all around the world, like Justin Bieber
or One Direction. He is my age, which is two years younger
than her. But it doesn't really matter I guess. Probably a
lot of his 24 million fans on Twitter are older or a lot younger
than him. But personally, I don't really care for his music.
Some of his songs are ok, but I'm not in love with him or
anything. But aparently, he got in an accident and now he was at
the hospital. My sister is sitting in front of the television,
waiting for each piece of news about him to be released. She also
has the sence that I need to know also.
"Serena!"
She yelled backed up to me, and I could tell by the tone of her
voice she was panicking.
"Don't worry, he'll be fine."
I have
already told her four times that Devon would be fine, just so she
could have a moment of peace. But if he died... I wouldn't
know what to say. I've had people die that were close to me
before, and no one really knows what to say then, or
ever.
I shut my journal just as I heard a cry come from down
stairs.
"One of the biggest stars in history, Devon Cole, is
offically pronounced dead."
The news lady on the television screen seemed depressed as she
read the words off of the piece of paper in front of her. My
sister was sitting on the couch and bawling, ocasionally blowing
her nose in a tissue or muttering words to herself. Missy
probably had to be one of the biggest Devon Cole fans I've
ever known. His face was plastered all over her walls, his perky
smile the same in almost every one.
"The talented teen got in a car accient three days ago after
his concert in Los Angeles, and was in critical condition until
he passed away this morning at 9:32 am."
The woman continued to give details about what happened, which
only caused my sister to sob more. I stood behind the couch by
the door caiously, making sure not to disturp Missy. I just stood
there and watched her blonde ponytail swish around as she shook
her head back and forth, trying not to believe what she was
hearing. I watched as her manicure nailed finger dragged across
her face as she wiped her sea blue eyes clean of tears, but only
more fell.
"Missy..."
Missy whipped around to look at me, and I took a step back in
surprise of how she acually looked. Her eyes were bloodshot and
red from all the crying, her face was scrunched up like she was
smelling something bad.
"S-serena, Dev-von is de-ead!"
Her voice was choked up, and I could see that it was hard for her
to open her mouth and let the words out.
"I see that."
"Ar-rn't you j-just dying in-nside?"
She was heaving now, her back curving and then straightening, and
I shrugged in reponse. Yeah, I guess it was sad that Devon Cole
died, but I had more inportant things to moarn for right then.
She glared at me, her smeared makeup still slowly running down
her face.
"Y-you have no s-soul."
She turned back to the television where they were showing clips
of Devon singing in concert. I watched for a minute, listening to
him performing in front of a sellout crowd of girls squealing and
singing their hearts out along with him. I shook my head and
shuffled into the kitchen, opening the fridge to rummage for
food.
"Is Marissa still upset?"
My father was standing in the corner of the kitchen, flipping
through a newspaper while sipping some coffee. Marissa was what
Missy's real name was, but when I was a baby I couldn't
pronounce it right. I would call her Sissy and Maissa, and then I
just combined them to call her Missy. She didn't mind though,
and now that was what everyone called her, besides my father.
"Honey, it's Devon. You know how much she loved
him."
My mother walked into the kitchen and frowned at my father, her
phone attached to her ear.
"No, Sheryl, not you. I was talking to Ed."
She rolled her eyes at me, switched her phone to the other ear,
and walked back out. My mother was a bussiness woman, always
talking to her co-workers. She pratically had her phone or pager
in her hand every second of the day. My dad just nodded and
flipped the page, continuing to read about some football game. I
sighed loudly and shut the door to the fridge, my father only
glancing up from the paper to lock his brown eyes with mine, then
stared back down at the paper. I rolled my eyes and walked up the
stairs up to my room, where I came face to face with Devon
Cole.
