I PROMISE I LOVE YOU; CHAPTER
FIFTEEN:
"Are you sure this is
alright with you, Melody?" I asked, "I really am sorry
about all of this. We'll hang out tomorrow?"
"Yeah, it's fine. I'll see you
tomorrow at school, bye!" She smiled and waved as she slipped
inside her house. I could tell she pasted on her comfortable facade
that let the world know she was hurting, but she wanted to be left
alone. I can't believe I let him ruin my friendship with Melody
before it even started. I waved back to her, sorry to see her
go.
"Home?" John seemed annoyed that Drake
was once again in the back seat of his jeep. We all knew he hated
him, and now, I can honestly see why.
"Yeah, I guess." I mumbled under my
breath, too upset to say anything else. When we got home, Drake
insisted we take a walk so he can explain everything. We reminisce
in no other spot than where "we" started; at the park. As
we strolled there in silence, he tried to recreate our first walk
there. He slid his hand down my arm and went for my hand. This time
around, I pulled away before I let him intertwine his fingers with
mine. I put my hands in my pockets and walked farther away from
him.
When we got there, I sat down on the swings and
momentarily lost Drake. Before I got to turn around I felt his
hands on my back and they gently pushed me. I started to grin.
"Stop." I whispered as I heard him laugh.
"Stop." A little louder. He must not have heard me
because he still continued pushing me on the swing.
"Stop." I raise my voice and leaped off of the swing; my
feet firmly planted in the ground as I tried to be her. The girl
without Drake. The better side of Lily Phern.
"What?" He questioned me. "We
were just having a little fun." He started to come to me. With
every step he took towards me, I took one step back from him. This
was one game of his I did not intend on losing. He seemed offended
by my actions. "I just got back, Babe. What are you acting
like this for?"
Honestly, I couldn't speak. I opened my
mouth and no words came out. I wanted to tell him that I hated him
and I wanted him to leave. I wanted him to know that I was doing
fine without him and that his absence made me stronger. But I
couldn't find the words. I knew that all the things I
could've told him would've just lead me back in his arms
anyway. I was ready to turn away from him and never look back. When
I heard him call my name I increased my speed. I wanted to run as
fast as I could, but what would that do for me? He called
again.
I spun around to face him and my skin brushed
his. His forehead rested on the bridge of my nose as I stared into
his eyes. They screamed for me to trust him, but my heart pulled me
away from him. "Please, Lily." His crisp, mint breath
smacked me in the face. "Let me love you again."
Once again, I opened my mouth and nothing
spilled out. Drake took it upon himself to fill the silent air with
a kiss. It had to be one of the most genuine moments we've ever
had. And I think I loved it.
