California
Chapter 1
Jessie’s POV
"Goodbye, New Jersey! Helloooo, California!" I squealed, stepping
off of the plane and slipping my sunglasses over my eyes. I
handed my suitcases to the porter person thing, and crawled into
the limo, followed by my brother, Nathan, and my mother, Jeanne.
Nathan was tanned, and muscular. He was 17, a year older than I
was. He had short, honey blonde hair and blue eyes. My mother had
dark brown hair, tan skin, and a petite frame. I, Jessie Wilson,
had long, wavy blonde hair that I usually either straightened or
curled, tanned skin, and blue eyes. I originally had brown hair,
but I dyed it blonde when I was 13.
I rolled down the tinted window with the driver’s permission
and shut my eyes, letting the warm, June air engulf me. I sighed
and sat back in my seat, a huge smile painted on my lips. I
stared out the window, taking in the palm trees, hot guys,
hotels, crystal clear water, and white beaches. Oh, I just wanted
to tan!
I squealed with excitement and raced out of the limo and up to
the ENOURMOUS house with my brother. It wasn’t ours, of course.
It was our uncle’s – my mom’s brother. Taped on the door
was a vibrant, yellow sticky note with my uncle’s distressed
handwriting scrawled on it. It read, “be back at two. Key is
under the mat. Make yourselves at home. See you soon!” I
grinned, ripped the note off of the door and took the key from
Nathan’s grasp and burst through the door. Last time I was in
this house, I was ten. I knew it was big, but I didn’t remember
it being this amazing! I gaped at everything: the giant
chandelier, grand staircase, large foyer, living room, kitchen,
and everything in between. Before, I knew it, I pushed Nathan out
of the way and sprinted up the staircase. “Hey, no fair!” He
protested, trailing just a few feet behind me. I dashed to one of
the three master bedrooms.
"VICTORY!” I shouted, sinking into the large, king – sized
bed.
“Ugh! No fair, Jess!” I stuck my tongue out at him and
watched him reluctantly sulk back to one of the other rooms. I
giggled and skipped into the master bathroom, leaning against the
marble counter. That was when I remembered we had completely
forgotten the bags. I swore under my breath and sprinted down the
hall, down the stairs, and out the door to grab all of my
bags.
By the time I finished unpacking, it was 1 P.M. I decided to go
down to the beach for a little. I asked Nathan if he wanted to
come, but he decided to stay home and help mom with something –
I don’t even know what. I went up to my room and slipped into a
pink and white striped bikini, and put on a pair of denim shorts
over it. I threw my hair into a messy bun and put my sunglasses
on.
My feet sunk into the soft, pure sand. I smiled to myself as I
observed a group of highly attractive guys playing volleyball.
Boy, oh boy, did I love California! “Oops,” I muttered when
my phone slipped out of my hand, falling to what I hoped wasn’t
its death in the sand. I bent over to pick it up, and a
volleyball landed on my head! I fell back on my butt, a few
swears escaping my lips.
"Oh, God! I’m so sorry. Are you alright?” One of the boys
from the volleyball game jogged over to me, helping me off the
ground. Normally, I would go off on him. But he was way too
cute.
“Yeah, I’m fine." I responded flatly, and began to walk
off.
"Hey!” I spun on my heel to look at him. “You leaving so
soon?” br /> “I don’t even know your name, boy!” I
laughed.
“I’m Ryan Karr. And you are?”
“Jessie Wilson.”
“Cute. Well, now that we know each other, you gonna stay or
what?” I laughed and walked over to Ryan and his friends. He
introduced me to everyone, but they weren’t nearly as
attractive as he was. None of them really caught my
eye.
