two is better than one
Chapter 4
I woke up the next morning still kind of confused from what happened last night. I decided that I wouldn't tell Ian that Justin gave me his number, because it would only cause more problems. I walked over to my wardrobe and started thinking about what to wear. I grabbed my striped skirt and a white tank top, choosing to wear my tan pumps with the outfit. Once I was dressed, I threw on a belt with a bow to define my waist. I grabbed my bag and walked downstairs, where my mother had placed a plate full of food in my spot at the table. I took a bite of my toast and she started talking to me.

"Olivia, sweetie. Your father and I need to tell you and Kyle something." she said, with a hint of sadness in her voice.

"Okay..." I said, not sure where this was going. They couldn't be getting divorced, because they seemed so happy with each other.
"I've been called into duty." said my father, motioning to his camoflauge suitcase, and I immediately knew what he meant.
"When do you leave?" I asked, trying not to cry. My father was in the military, and whenever he goes over seas, he's gone for at least a year, with no way to contact us.
"Tomorrow night. I'll be gone for about six months this time, give or take." he said. Six months military time usually meant more than a year.
"We will be having dinner as a family tonight. Please join us at 7:00 at Carrero's." my mother said, trying to be strong.
"Yeah, we'll be there." said Kyle. I had plans with Ian, but I could put them off since it was my father's last night here for a while.
"Of course. But right now we have to get to school. Love you mom, love you dad." I said, giving both of them a hug.
"Have a good day at school kids. I'm positive that it will be great." said my mother, with a smile. I wonde what she's up to. I grabbed my keys off the counter and walked out to my car. I started it, and Kyle and I drove in silence. I was really upset that my father was leaving, and I didn't really want to talk to anyone right now. We eventually got to the school, and I started making my way to my locker. I entered my combination and it clicked open. I dropped my bag in there and grabbed my stuff for first period. I walked to the classroom, but not before running into Ian.
"Hey beautiful." he called out to me. I looked at him, and he walked over to me and gave me a hug.
"Hi." was all I said back.
"What's wrong?" he asked, sensing that I wasn't in my usual good mood.
"I don't want to talk about it." I said, because I really didn't. I can't cry in front of the whole school. It would only make me look weak. And I am not weak.
"Livvi, what's going on?" he asked, determined to get an answer out of me.
"Really Ian, I have to go. It's nothing you did." I said, and walked away. I turned into my classroom and sat down in my seat, waiting for Kristi to walk in. She did, and she gave me a bright smile. I have to fake being happy for this class, I guess. Luckily we didn't have much time to talk before class. Justin walked in ten minutes late again, and took his seat next to me.
"Hey. How are you holding up?" he asked, and I figured Kyle had told him my dad was leaving tomorrow.
"Okay." I said, turning my attention to the teacher and the notes on the board. Class dragged on, but finally the bell rang. I walked to my locker, and retrieved my stuff for my next class. Ian walked up next to me and just stood there.
"Hey." he said, his arms crossed.
"Hi. Something came up tonight, and we can't hang out. Can we change the plans to this weekend instead?" I asked.
"Why do you keep ditching me Olivia?" he asked, growing annoyed with me.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"This morning, you didn't want to talk to me at all. And now you're bailing on me tonight. Is there something I should know about? Or someone?" he asked. He can't honestly think I'm cheating on him. Lately, he's been getting on my nerves. He has no reason to be jealous, and he doesn't understand that.
"I'm just going through a tough time right now Ian. And no, there isn't somebody else. I can't believe you would even think that." I scoffed, turning my back to him and walking to class. I saw Justin in the hall, and he must have seen me too, because he left his group of friends and came over to walk with me.
"Hey." he said, putting his hands in his pockets.
"Why does everybody have to be so paranoid?" I asked, not thinking before I spoke.
"Boyfriend problems?" he guessed.
"Kind of. I didn't tell him my dad's going away tomorrow, becuase then he would want to talk about it, and I don't want to. And I was supposed to hang out with him tonight, but my mom made reservations for my family for dinner, and he thinks I'm cheating on him. Ugh. Boys these days." I said, saying what I really needed to. I can't believe I just told Justin that.
"Don't tell anyone." I told him.
"No problem." he said, and continued walking me to class. When I got to my classroom, I turned to thank him for talking with me. I walked into the classroom, and about 20 minutes into class, there was a knock on the door. My teacher went to open the door, and she hugged the guy who was standing in the doorway. It must have been one of her former students, but when he walked in the class, I got a better look at him.
