It was to slow down people's typing so the typewriters wouldn't get jammed. If you've ever noticed, if the keyboard was in alphabetical order, all the letters that are most commonly used would be on one side of the keyboard.

I knoww:
Because a flabajillion years ago, when they had to send their papers to the printing press and stamp out the letters, people would go too fast pressing the buttons so they rearranged the letters so they'd have more time between people sending in their stuffsss

its just so that its easier to type, otherwise one hand would type a lot more than the other... to put it simply :)

no what actually happend was the guy who created the type writer needed more time between typing for else the typewriter would get jammed so he made it in qwerty so people would type slower, but it turns out its the fastest keyboard there is. lol i learned that in social studies

Some keyboards are in alphabetical order, but the most common one used in America is the QWERTY style. The most used letters are in the middle row and the lesser used on the top and bottom rows. It makes it easier to use. I wanted to know a few years ago so I did some research.

its cause the middle is the letters most used when typing[most convenient to get to], the top is the middle, and the bottom is the least.
learned this in typing class :P

I read about this the other day and it was so that in the day people using typewriters wouldn't be slowed down because the common letters in the alphabet would be so close together.
