Can’t Control Love
Chapter Twenty-Four/Chase’s POV:


“Where are we going?” Melody asked. “You’ll see.” I honestly had no idea where we were going. All I knew was that I couldn’t wait another second. I took one hand off the wheel to grab her hand, she smiled at me. I’ve wanted to do that for god knows how long and now I actually could; it was great. We continued to talk the whole way there; wherever there was… Then after driving aimlessly for fifteen minutes I finally thought of the perfect place to go. I peered over at the clock to make sure it wasn’t too late; we would probably just make it.

It wasn’t awkward being best friends one day and boyfriend and girlfriend the next like I thought it would. I guess the fact that we were in love with each other for so long eased the awkwardness. “We’re here.” I told her. She looked confused as I parked on a desolate hill. “Close your eyes.” I assured her. I got out of the driver’s side and opened the passenger door for her. I guided her out of the SUV while her eyes were still shut. “Okay, open them.” I directed her after walking for a few minutes. She opened her eyes; she still looked confused. “It’s… um… gorgeous.” she said, trying to be nice. “This isn’t what I wanted to show you.” I told her while sitting down on the side of the hill. “Come here.” She sat down next to me, leaning her head on my shoulders. “Just wait a minute and you’ll see why I took you here.”

Within the next thirty seconds a firework went off. I tapped her shoulder and pointed in the direction of the firework. “Is that Disneyland?!” she asked with enthusiasm. I nodded my head. “The view from here is amazing!” she beamed. We sat there hand in hand watching the firework show. I could tell she liked it, I’m pretty sure I knew her better than herself. It was the finale of the fireworks and I helped her up and kissed her. My goal was to make it resemble one of those movies where they kissed under the fireworks; let’s just say it felt a lot better than it looked in the movies. We stopped kissing just in time to see the very last firework.

We started to walk towards the car afterwards, “You really are a ladies man.” she joked. I laughed, “What do you mean?” I asked helping her into her seat. I got into the driver side when she answered, “You just know the right things to say, the right things to do and the right places to go.” she admitted. I laughed again, “I guess you’re right.” We joked around the whole way back to her house; it felt like we were best friends again. Which was exactly what I wanted; I wanted to be in love with my best friend. It was all too perfect. I stopped in her driveway, “Thank you so much for everything tonight Chase.” she said smiling at me. “The concert was amazing, the song, the fireworks… and the kiss.” she blushed at the last part. “I’m sorry I changed and didn’t admit it. You were right and I promise I won’t let fame get to me again.” I told her truthfully. “Good.” she joked. “Goodnight Chase.” she said while getting out of the car. “Goodnight Melody.” I answered back flashing a half-smile.

I drove home in a love sick daze. It was finally happening. I felt amazing, like everything was finally coming into place and everything was making sense. Whenever I was with her all the pain just went away. I loved being in love with my best friend and actually being able to express it instead of hide it.

I walked into my apartment that night, my mind was in another world. I heard quiet talking from across the hall. I peered down the long hallway where my mother’s room was and saw her talking to a familiar figure. Eventually I made out the figure to be my father. My jaw dropped opened. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Then, I saw them kiss and a pure feeling of disgust filled my body. I quietly slipped away to my room without saying a sound.
