a deathly silence fills the cold morning air
we pray our next breath is not our last
a shrill, piercing whistle sounds
it's time, the end is near
the sound of exploding shells,
and the clatter of machine guns begin the weeks of deafening noise
in no mans land we will fight for our country
fight for our lives

and as we slip into eternal sleep
we shall remember a time before war
a time of peace, and a time of joy
we shall not hide in the face of death
but welcome it with no regrets
we shall end our years with pride
and remember that we died fighting for our country

we will now remember the days
when death was just around the corner
when we would shudder at the thought of it
we are now safe as we lie here
not regretting
but remembering
remembering our last day

they now lie sleeping in flanders fields
not ever to see their loved ones again
not ever to laugh, or cry, again
we wear a blood red poppy
upon our chest
to remember those who fought and died
who mourn the deaths of fathers, sons, husbands and comrades
we remember those who fought for our country
lest we forget
