I Never Knew
Chapter Three Part One
I hesitated to open it, my thumb fumbled over the keyboard in a scurry trying to get it to open. I took a death breath as my heart raced, I clicked the open button and the message popped up.
Hey Partner come meet me by the parking lot so my mom can pick us up :)
I quickly sent a reply since my body was taken over by excitement.
Okay I’ll be there in one second.
What if answering so fast made me look pushy, or even worse desperate. I looked around to see if I could see him waiting for me, when I spotted him. I started to walk towards him when he noticed me and waved. I swear my heart stopped beating for a minute and the world froze as I stepped closer to him. This is it, there’s no time for messing around here, if I want to impress Ryan then I need to act casual. But not fake.
As reality set back in and my heart restarted with its usual thudding, I noticed that I was less then five feet away from him.
“Hey Alex, are you ready to go?” he asked me with a smile from ear to ear.
“I’m ready when you’re ready.” I answered matching my smile to his.
“Okay great because my mom is already here.” He said as he pointed over at a red mini van.
Walking towards the van felt like a dream. I knew everything was real but it didn’t feel like it was actually happening to me. This was weird because I had never felt like this before. But I had also never been invited over to Ryan’s house before either. When we got to the van Ryan opened up the side door and hopped in, I followed quickly behind him and closed the door behind me. He then introduced me to his mom who was sitting up front in the driver’s seat, I waved and said hello and then the rest of the car ride was filled with an awkward silence.
As we pulled up in front of his house I couldn’t help but notice how cozy it looked from the outside. It was a two level brick house with white trim and matching shutters on the windows. The front lawn was neatly manicured and had a quaint little flower garden that stretched to the end of the driveway. At the foot of the driveway there was a little sign that said the parker family that finished off the look of the house. I wasn’t even inside and I already knew I felt safe here.
