Love Always
part sixteen

My heart was pounding and everything to be moving in slow motion around me. All I could do were repeat Ace's words over and over in my head. Oh wait, it must look like I'm actually considering this! I am not at all! My mind has been made up since the moment the words left his lips, which must have been at least three minutes ago. I look over and sure enough Ace is beginning to look concerned. I better tell him, and I better tell him now.
"Ace-" and he interrupts me before I can even finish my thought. " No wait this was stupid, just go to sleep and forget about it."
"No I won't forget about it, Ace I can't forget about it. That was the most amazing speech I have ever and I mean ever heard, and you know I have certainly watched a lot of romantic movies since I always make you watch them with me. And Ace I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't want to marry you, I need to marry you. I need to be yours forever and ever. I love you more than anything in this life and you are the only thing that I remembered when I woke up today. I knew it had been a bad accident and all I could think was that something terrible could have happened to you and Ace I could not have lived in a world where you aren't."
Ace is staring at me with that sly grin that I love slowly appearing on his face, and he whispers "So is that your longwinded way of saying yes?" and as I slowly nod my head up and down he grabs my hand and laces his fingers through mine bending over to give me a sweet kiss, and whisper in my ear, "And one day real soon we will get married because I will love you. Always.".
Mere moments later we are both exhausted, and after our goodnight ritual, we curl up together on my tiny hospital bed, fingers laced together and fall asleep. Early morning comes, and I am to tired to open my eyes. I know it's morning because I can hear Ace shifting gently next to me trying not to wake me. But I am too tired to open my eyes. And then I hear him whispering softly to himself.
I strain to hear what exactly it is he is saying. I hear him whispering something about how much he loves me, and how glad he is that this day has finally come. I am far to curious to keep to myself any longer. Without opening my eyes I simply ask, "Ace honey what exactly are you doing?".
Then slowly I open up my eyes turning to face him. And for the first time in many many years I notice that he is blushing. He clears his throat softly and says, " I am working on my vows for you...I have done this every morning since I proposed to you when we were seven years old, right before I come into your room to wake you." And in that moment I don't think that it is possible there could be anyone who loves a person more than I love my Ace.
