It's hard being a kid nowadays.
There's just so much. There you are, on the stage, so many
peoples' beating eyes on you just watching in anticipation for
you to mess up. They wait, like a lion stalking its prey, wait for
you to crack under the pressure. Pressure from what, most parents
ask, we're only kids, they say. Well, how about the
stress from school, the desire for success, the longing to be
wanted, the disgust with yourself, the difficult journey of trying
to figure out who you really are? The pressure has many sources. I
use to be in the crowd, slowly inching my way to the front row.
Eventually, I became the actor, the protagonist, the tortured, on
the stage. The bright lights emphasizing the horror within.
Hopefully, I make it off the stage alive. Hopefully, the lion
doesn't see me, doesn't catch me, doesn't rip me to
shreds, moves on. Hopefully, I will still exist after the show.
Hopefully.
It's hard being a kid nowadays. There's just so much.
