I’m not afraid.
Chapter 1, part
4
“I don’t see a
present...” I looked around nervously. “I
know,” He was still biting his lip. “I like
you.” Those three words went straight through my head.
“What?” my eyes grew wide. “I like you, Derek.
I understand, you think I’ m a freak now but
please…” I cut him off, and stood inches away from
him. “I think I’m gay. I think I like you,
too.” I could feel my throat closing slowly. Trent bit his
lip again, and gently grabbed my hand. I blushed a tiny bit, and
looked at our hands. “So, you like me?” He gently
swayed our arms. “I guess.” I was in a total loss for
words. He slowly moved closer, his face coming towards mine. His
lips gently touched my cheek, then he made his way down to my
lips. I realized my eyes were closed when I heard the kitchen
door open, and they darted open. “Derek?!” my mom was
standing right in front of us, with wide eyes and a shocked look
on her face. Trent quickly backed away and put his hands in the
air like you do when the cops catch you doing something and
you’re “innocent.” In this case, my mom was the
cop. “Derek…and, uh, Mrs. Miller. I’m gonna
go.” Trent darted out of my house, leaving me with my
mother who had the same look on her face as she did when she
walked in the door.
