“Hey, what’s wrong with your
eye?” a random girl in my homeroom pointed out. I stopped
mid step trying to come up with a quick answer.
“Oh, um, I, uh, just… ran into a door and hit my
face.” I forced a joking smile like it was no big deal.
“Oh… you’re bright.” She laughed. I was
glad that she believed me. I went back to the bathroom and
realized that I did rub some of it off, making the bruise stand
out next to the rest of my even skin tone. I didn’t bring
any cover up with me, so I just tried rubbing a little bit that
was on other parts of my face and moved it over. It looked semi
better. I walked back to homeroom just 2 seconds after the
bell.
“Excuse me, but where is your pass?” My psycho
homeroom teacher, Mrs. Jacobson, demanded.
“Uh, I was already here once. I just went to the
bathroom.” I answered honestly.
“Well that’s no excuse. Ill mark that as an unexcused
lateness…” She said writing something down on her
attendance sheet.
“Oh. I guess that works too.” I mumbled. I just
rolled my eyes and sat back down in my seat. I was zoning in and
out of consciousness all class, so I couldn’t even tell you
what we were learning about.
“Hey, how come I didn’t see you this morning?”
Jeremy asked in the hallway.
“Because my bus was late.” I hugged my books a little
tighter.
“Oh. Whatever. So what happened to your face?” It was
more of an accusation.
“I ran into a door and I hit my face.” I looked away
because I couldn’t look people in the eye when I’m
lying, like a lot of people can’t.
“That’s the most bullshit response if I’ve ever
heard one.” He laughed.
“Well it’s what happened so believe it.” I
nudged him.
“Okay whatever you say babe. But mark my words, I’m
going to find out what happened to you whether you like it or
not. I gotta get going to class though. See ya.” He said
giving me a quick hug and kiss then turning away to walk to his
next class.
“Yeah, right. Nobody will ever know
because nobody could ever imagine what I’m going
through.” I mumbled to myself as I walked to my
2nd class.
