About your situation, I'm actually in the SAME exact problem except he's already dating my ex-bestfriend. I dont have a masterplan to break the two of them up, he likes her and I have learnd to cope with that. My best advice is just be there for him, like I am right now. Me and him are currently bestfriends and I know he can trust me and I can trust him. Seth will most likely relize that your ex-Best friend is not right for him, and relize how perfect you are for him. I can't gurentee that it will happen instantly, just give it some time. If it is meant to be, it will happen.
