94 Days Chapter 1
I scuffed along the sandy beach peering out at the splashing water and the beautiful blue sky ahead of me.
The warm sand squished between my toes as little kids ran around me playing tag.
I smiled at the pure innocence of the joyful time they were having as they ran around.
I took a seat on the white sand of Clearwater Beach in Florida and took my sandals off, letting the coolness of the water slightly touch my toes.
Rummaging through the sand, I found a small hermit crab pinching its claws as it waddled in my direction.
Someone bumped into me while my focus was on the crab, soon losing their balance and falling. I saw a teal frisbee skid on the moist sand landing in front of a couple sunbathing.
"Hey, watch it," I said as soon as a tall figure cast a shadow on me once they regained balance and got up.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there!" A tall, lean brown-eyed boy said apologetically.
"It's fine, I'm used to it," I muttered bitterly.
A confused look consumed his face as he asked while smirking, "You're used to random guys running into you?"
A fake chuckle escaped my lips as I lightly responded, "No, I'm used to people not noticing me."
Squinting my eyes I pushed myself up and stood up, dusting the sand off of my ripped short shorts.
He looked at me, his eyes filled with sorrow. I hated when people gave me that look.
I smirked at him and spun 180 degrees heading in the other direction.
"Hey blondie, I'm sorry," He blurted after me.
I turned around slightly to face him, "My name's Harper, don't call me blondie."
"Fine, Harper, I'm sorry" he smirked as he spun the frisbee through his fingers.
I started walking in the other direction and sarcastically gave him a thumbs up.
"See you later, blondie" I could hear him chuckle but I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of turning around.
I walked towards the other side of the beach laying down in the sand and plopped my sunglasses on my nose. Tying my champagne blonde hair into a bun, a few seagulls flew over the horizon in search of food.
Absorbing the summertime warmth, I waited for my brother, Charles, to get off of work.
I leaned on my elbow looking back at the lifeguard chair but saw no one there.
My eyes searched around for my 6 foot tall brother finding myself only seeing a crowd of people. After a few minutes my eyes came upon a bunch of girls flirting with a fairly well tanned boy with dark eyes and blonde hair while he flexed his muscles in a bragging matter. I should've figured, of course my brother stood a few feet away from each of them, soon pulling them into his arms figuring he was going to go buy them a drink from the Snack Shack. Sometimes the way he acted floored me; but then again what guy wouldn't flirt with girls with their breasts practically hanging out of their suits.
Sometimes, the indecency of society nowadays disappointed me in ways I never thought possible.
As I got lost in my thoughts and soon a shadow was cast over me again as I peered above my sunglasses.
"Can I help you?" I said as I saw the boy with chocolate brown hair stand above me again.
I could see his lips form into a smile and quickly responded, "I forgot to tell you my name."
My forehead wrinkled as I squinted my eyes at him, "It's Eli," he finished.
"And why does that exactly mean something to me?" I said in a tone that might've come off as a bit bitchy.
"Because I'm Eli, a guy that changes lives," He smirked as I laid back down rolling my eyes in disbelief.
