Some people actually have insecurities. But you are very right that some people do only beg for attention. I on the other hand, get told how pretty I am.. I just don't see it like other do. So that's just me. I understand what they mean, and I keep my mouth shut. My insecurities don't need to be world wide broadcasted. But some people in all honesty just have been told that, over and over again how ugly they were and they believe it. So before you go and tell someone they want attention, you should know them like you know your friend. That person might actually mean it and doesn't want attention, but don't bring people down okay? I know it may not seem like you are but it does bring people down to be also called ugly by other or fat by others and to add another word "attention " only makes them hate their selves more and believe it. I am not trying to shame you but enlighten you that not everyone is like that. I had a friend like that but instead of putting her down for who she is, try to change her with kindness. I honestly had a friend (my best friend) who acted like that, but it wasn't for the guys. We never cared about that. It was because she has her own battles and demons to face one day. Maybe instead of telling everyone on the internet about her .. tell her what you see in her and that you also wouldn't be her friend if there wasn't something better in her you liked and tell her she can be all better. . maybe she is deprived of love and you cant understand. I guess maybe it's best to tell her in all honesty how she makes you feel and leave, don't let people bring you down to where they are. Be better for you and maybe one day she can understand what you mean. Kill her with honesty.
