Second
Striving for the blue ribbon,
But never getting any more than red
Wishing to claim the gold medal
But receiving a silver that looks like lead
Never first place,
Always runner up
Number 2
Understudy
Honorable Mention
Almost had it.
So close to winning
With thoughts of having a chance
But always another girl around who is prettier, faster, smarter, better
And the guy denies he's even given Smaller Trophy a glance.
Left to thinking competing is no longer worth it,
That they'll always leave for someone better.
Wondering if anyone will notice soon,
now, or maybe even never.
Working too hard would cause loss all together,
Just to fail the whole test and to be beckoned,
With a sad smile and dissapointing news,
That I'll never be more than second.
