Corruption is the abuse of entrusted power; corruption
distorts the economy and hurts everyone especially those
whose livelihood or happiness depends on the integrity of
people in positions of authority.
Corruption starts when man dominates his fellow man in
quest for absolute power. As it is said: “Absolute Power
Corrupts Absolutely”
Like an incurable cancer, corruption resides or is dwelling
within most of us. Our corrupt inclination lead most of us to
put our own interest first or to see as our main purpose, the
gaining of more authority and/or the gaining of more
material possessions.
Our world in general is now characterized by greed and
selfishness, in such an environment most people find it
difficult to be different, and that is our major problem in
Africa. The natural desire for more material comfort and
financial well-being have driven many to always act
deceitfully. Driven by these selfish ambitions, we have
become more ‘power hungry’; we have developed stronger
desires for more money and more material possessions –
more than we will ever need, and sadly we are now willing
to behave in every dishonest way to achieve these our
unwholesome desires.
Corruption and carelessness hurts all of us in the end.
Corruption is mostly responsible for most deaths on our
roads, building collapses and building fires; as buildings rise
with little if any input from engineers but plenty of bribes to
government inspectors and regulators.
