The best part about rainy days/nights?
Laying out on my bed underneath my sheets and comforters but right
before falling asleep, cracking open the window. A faint breeze
rolls in forcing me to crawl further underneath and hide myself
from the cold. But that's not it. The best part is listening to
the rain; the soft drone of water hitting the concrete and leaves,
a silence that isn't silent, a peaceful roar. A balance between
noise and tranquility that puts me to sleep. Every drop, drizzle,
tinkle is a vibration that's felt through my bones, sending
shivers down my spine, up my neck, and bounces back down. Every car
that passes by with wet tires is a quick scream between the
constant whisper of nature; the kind of whisper that is implanted
in your mind, drilled into your skull, and burned into your memory
so it makes sure it'll scar you for life. The eeriness of this
sound makes me feel weightless, like I'm out in the ocean just
about to go off the edge of a reef. You feel so huge and within
seconds you're out in open ocean, vulnerable, just floating
there. It's not the vulnerability that gets me, it's the
thought that even though I feel small going off that reef, I feel
smaller thinking that I'm not even half of a speck of dust in
this universe, that this field of what we see and can't see is
so big that our minds can't even comprehend a measurement to
show how big this place is. My time, your time, everyone's time
is smaller than a blink of an eye in this universe. And all of this
is clear from the falling of rain.
