One day in a plane,
the pilot lost control
and told everyone to call their loved ones.
Though I had no one to call,
a five year old called her mother
as her father sobbed.
“Mummy, it's okay,
don't cry.
I just wanted to say thank you,
for waking me up every morning with a kiss
and making me pancakes.
You make the best pancakes.
And, thank you for
reading me stories
before bed time and
loving me with all your heart.
I love you mummy.”
She handed the phone back to her father
looked into his sad eyes and
saw something no one else has.
“It's going to be okay,
don't ever worry.”
she told him.
And I looked into her hopeful eyes
and said,
“ I never will again”
