Once upon a
time
a man and a woman
fell in love
and they got married
and once upon a time
a man and a woman
had a little boy
and a little girl
who they loved more
and more
every time their
little hearts fluttered
but once upon a time
a man and a woman
began to fight
and the man turned
to bottles and cans
and the woman
to the man next door
and once upon a time
the little boy
and the little girl
began to wonder
if it was their fault
and the little girl's
wrists
turned as red
as the man's eyes
when he came home at 3 a.m
as red as her brother's cheek
from the harsh hand
of the man
as red as the mother's lips
when she came home
from the neighbors house
and once upon a time
the little girl
dressed in her favorite red dress
took a walk
to the stream
and never came home
and all that was left
was a note that read
"my family was dead
long before I was."
