His Daughter
Two
We continue to open all of the gifts. I end up with a new phone,
clothes, gift cards, cash, jewlery, and my 1D tickets, of
course.
We all mostly get the same things, just different objects. I hug
them all before beginning to program my new phone.
I try to call my dad, but his phone is off, so he's probably
recording. He couln't take five minutes to tell me happy
birthday? Sometimes I feel like this fame has gone to his
head.
I smile through my broken thoughts that trail off into the same
old thing.
I bring everything up into my room, not knowing that Nathan is
following me. He can be pretty quiet sometimes.
I turn around and he startles me. "Oh, Nate.."
"Are you okay? I know you're probably upset about your
dad-"
"I'm fine," I lie through my own teeth,
interrupting him.
"Hail, I know you better than you know yourself. You're
not fine."
"He's just busy. I get it, okay?" I refuse to cry,
though I want to. You'd think he'd have Christmas off, or
at least ask to have it off.." I trail off, still refusing
to cry.
"He wants to see you. You're his only biological kid.
Trust me, he'll come around."
"I guess you could be right. But he's never come through
before, so the odds aren't exactly in my favor.." I
chuckle at my Hunger Games refernce as Nate smiles.
"See, you can even cheer yourself up," he says, rubbing
his hand up and down my back. "Now go get dressed for all
the things we have to attend today.
"Fine," I say, standing up to change.
My blonde hair falls nicely often, but today I feel the need to
just pull it back. When I'm done, I come down to see everyone
dressed all fancy-like, which is how we have to dress often, but
not too often considering my dad is a rapper, not an actor.
I grab my stuff, not even sure where we're going yet, and
follow them out the door.
