The Start of Our
Lives
Chapter 39
It was Saturday and all I could think of was the person behind the
mysterious phone calls. I kept thinking of the people who knew
about Christian. Justin, no. Madison, no. Christian, no. John, no.
I couldn’t help but think that there was someone I was
missing. I thought about it again and then I realized,
Olivia. It was obvious. She wanted me to stay away from
Madison so she could have him for herself. I quickly dialed the
phone and told her to meet me at the Starbucks in town. She eagerly
agreed, wanting to “catch up”; obviously not realizing
I knew the truth.
When I pulled up I saw that her blue Volkswagen beetle had already
pulled in. I got out of my car and walked into the little coffee
shop. I saw Olivia already sitting down at a table with two coffees
in front of her. As I approached to table I realized that the cup
across from Olivia, was already half empty.
“Hi Julia. I hope you don’t mind; I invited a friend of
mine. He said you guys knew each other.” Olivia said.
“Oh its ok.” I said. I turned around and saw someone
that looked a lot like Christian walking my way. It
couldn’t be Christian, I thought, he’s in
Atlanta. Turns out, I was wrong about two things. It
was Christian, and Olivia was not the unknown caller. I
got a text from the unknown number and it said, “Wrong blonde
sweetheart.” I didn’t think a lot about it because
Christian was coming. I just quickly slipped it back in my pocket
and stood up.
“Hello Julia.” Christian said, taking the seat next to
me.
“Hi, you didn’t tell me you were in town.” I
said.
“You didn’t ask.”
“I’m going to get a coffee.” I said and walked
away. I wished they were sitting closer to where you order because
I knew they were talking, but I couldn’t hear them. As soon
as I got back to the table they changed the subject.
“So Julia, how do you guys know each other?” Olivia
asked. I was confused, she didn’t know?
“We met when I went to California for the summer. Justin and
I hung out with him a lot.” As soon as I said that I
regretted it.
“So speaking of you and Justin, how’s Madison?”
Christian asked trying to hide the smirk on his face.
“We’re fine.” I lied. The rest of our
conversation was awkward. Christian kept making hints about Madison
and when I finally started to get fed up with it, I finished my
coffee.
“Well this was fun.” I said standing up.
“Don’t leave yet!” Olivia said.
“Yeah don’t leave!” Christian added.
“I have to be getting home.” I said.
“Then let us come over! Come on Julia, I’m leaving on
Monday and I wanna be able to catch up.” Christian said.
Realizing he wasn’t gonna give up, I did.
“Fine.” They followed me to my house and when we pulled
up; I just prayed that Madison wouldn’t see
Christian.
