Most people around where I am only say it when they're joking about something. You'll mostly hear it in casual conversation in the south and in small towns.

Everyone from where I'm from says it. (small town in Georgia). but only if you're talking to like two or more people and you aren't typing. It's really different throughout the U.S. like accents are in European countries.

It freaks me out a little bit that there are people who don't say y'all because it's so common here in Florida. Addressing a group of people as "you guys" instead of "y'all" sounds incredibly wrong.
