Chapter 31

I haven't been able to look Travis in the eye since we nearly kissed a week ago.
Every time we walked by each other in the hallways, I made sure to go the other way.
Whenever he came close to talking to me, I would always make up an excuse to avoid him.
I knew that I was being unfair and unreasonable by pushing Travis away, but when we were just inches from our lips touching, I realized something.
I realized that I didn't know what I would do without Travis.
I was scared, looking into his eyes, knowing that I was going to need him more than he needed me.
I was scared that he didn't love me back.
"Get out." Travis muttered coldly under his breath when I was talking to a classmate of mine, Carla, in an empty classroom the next morning.
Carla stared back at Travis with widened eyes, full of fear.
She shot me a quick glance, before rushing to gather her belongings.
She scattered out of the room in a matter of seconds.
I didn't blame her for being so eager to leave, though.
The look Travis had on his face was intimidating.
His face was pale, his eyes were dark, and his jaw was clenched together tightly.
But to me, he was still unbelievably attractive.
Before I could let my feelings get in the way, I reached for my bag that was on the desk.
"I should go, too." I whispered, trying make my way around Travis.
Travis shot his two arms out in front of me, locking me in place.
My back was pressed against the desk, as Travis hovered over me.
"Are you trying to avoid me?" Travis asked lowly, his hot breath sending shivers down my spine.
I shuddered, before biting down on my lower lip.
I saw Travis' eyes flicker to my lips for a split second, before they snapped back to my eyes.
"Travis," I started off, feeling breathleass already, "I need to go."
Travis stared at me, long and hard. "You're being stupid."
I was taken aback by his harsh words at first, but when they finally sunk in, it felt like a bullet had pierced through my heart.
"What?" I whispered, my voice barely audible.
"You're not talking to me because of what almost happened last week." Travis' voice was cold, nothing nice about it at all. "You're trying to make such a big deal out of something that didn't even matter."
I hadn't even noticed the pool of tears that welled up in my eyes before I felt a warm tear sliding down my cheek, burning my skin.
Travis' eyes softened for a second, before they became dark and unwelcoming once again.
"I'm sorry, Travis." I let out a shaky whisper. "I'm sorry that it meant so much to me."
I pushed Travis' arms away from me, as I felt myself sprinting towards the door.
I suddenly heard Travis slamming his fists against the desk.
Maybe, just maybe, I thought that he might've ran after me.
But, he didn't.
And what happened, just right there, proved something.
It proved to me that I was right, for once.
I was right when I said that Travis would never love me back.
