Aided by an Angel
Chapter Five; Part
Two
The lines on the boardwalk must've been long
because they've been gone for a good ten minutes now. We were
done setting up and now sitting, lonely, on the beach. I laid my
head on Zac's chest and listened to him breathing along with
the waves crashing on the sand. I figured now was the time to let
everything out. My lips trailed kisses up to his ear so I could
whisper to him my secret.
"I want to be a singer like Daddy." His
face grew pale at the thought, but I continued with my argument.
"I want to be famous and sing in a different venue every
night and live the life of a celebrity. I want make music my
career and I want to know what you think about that."
He didn't say anything for awhile; he
couldn't even look at me. His lungs expanded inside his chest
and became bloated with air, "I don't want you to go
away." His sad, blue eyes were glassy as his
thin fingers reached out to graze my cheek.
"Why not? You can come with me, Zac." He
sat up and stared out at the horizon. "We're in this
together, aren't we?" Zac continued to ignore me. I was
fed up with waiting for a clear answer from him, and started to
take long strides towards the water's edge. On my way, I
stripped off my dress, revieling my body that I knew drove him
mad. I made sure to sway my hips and let my hair down from
it's high pony.
The squishy sand sunk beneath my feet as I waited
for the salty water to grace my feet with it's presence. At
first it was chilly, but after it rose to my ankles, the water
felt good and relieving. I imagined what it would feel like to
have it engulf my whole body and got lost in a daydream. I was
only lost for a moment, though, because I felt Zac's hands
snake around my waist and his nose nuzzle itself in my neck.
"I'm sorry," He apologized into my
skin; his words vibrating throughout me. "I'm just
afraid of losing our future together." I craned my neck back
to him, trying to fathom his words.
"What future?"
"Miracle, I was planning on spending the rest
of my life with you. I just don't want you to forget about me
once you're gone." I turned around to hold his face in
my sweaty hands.
"I could never forget about you, Zac. I love
you." I brought his face in closer to mine so our lips would
touch, tenderly. I felt his tongue nudge at my lips and let him
in. I jumped onto him, wrapping my arms around his hips as he
slowly spun around on the deserted beach.
He pulled away from me and gave me a pleaing look.
"If you love me, promise you won't leave? I need you to
stay here. With me." I locked my fingers at the nape of his
neck and contemplated his request. My lips gingerly pressed
against his once last time.
"I promise." I lied to him and I knew this
would be the first of many lies.
