Grammar You Should Probably Know:
Part 1: Their, There, and
They're
their = shows possession.
I went to their house after school.
there = a location
I have been there.
they're = a contraction combining the words
"they" and "are." Means "they
are."
Part 2: To, Two, and
Too
to = expresses motion
I went to the zoo.
too = more than what is necessary/possible, or
"also"
I had too much water before that long
drive.
I want to come too!
Part 3: Don't end
sentences with prepositions
Prepostions: with, at, on, in, of, to, etc.
Wrong: Who did you go with?
Right: With whom did you go?
^Also notice who vs. whom
Part 4: Affect or
Effect?
Affect: Used as a verb.
Every vote affects the final outcome of the
election.
Effect: Used as a noun.
The effect of your individual vote is larger
than you think.
Part 5: Your vs.
You're
Your = shows possession
I saw your dog on your front
lawn.
You're = A contraction combining "you"
and "are." Literally means "you
are."
You're going on vacation in a week.
Part 6: It's vs.
Its
It's = A contraction combining "it" and
"is." Literally means "it is."
It's going to be a fun
night!
Its = shows possession
The puppy shook its toy vigorously back and
forth.
Part 7: Then vs.
Than
Then = used to represent a time or used as a
transition
I was there then.
Then, we went to the mall.
Than = shows comparison
Apples are better than bananas.
Hopefully this cleared up any confusion, or let other grammar
freaks out there know that they're not the only
