Chapter 1
The plane landed and
the flight attendant shook me slightly.
"Ms., we're
here." My eyes fluttered and she smiled. I returned her
smile until I realized where I was and why I was here. I'm
here to spend the summer with my dad. Just great.
I got off the plane
and took my luggage to the fin my dad which wasn't that
hard. He was standing by his car, a yellow lamborghini, smiling
ear to ear. Right.
"Hey sport."
He said.
"Hi." I
mumbled, getting into the car. He climbed in beside me.
"How was school
this past year?" I scoffed.
"Maybe you'd
know if you stuck around."
"Samantha, you
know that isn't fair."
"Just like it
wasn't fair when you walked out the door. Sorry Byron, but
this whole 'bonding' this isn't going to
work." He gave me a look.
"What?" I
asked. I mostly just wanted him to stop looking at me like
that.
"What did you
just call me?"
"I called you
Byron. That is your name, you know."
"Yeah, well,
I'm your dad. So you can call me your dad." He
didn't sound angry, if anything, he sounded hurt. Whatever.
You never witness hurt or abandonment until you see one of your
parents drive down the street knowing they won't be home
for dinner that night or ever again.
"I'd rather
not." He sighed and we arrived at his house. It was huge
to say the least. Three stories tall at least. I mean, my mom
and I didn't live in a trailer, but it wasn't a mansion
either. I climbed out of the car, grabbed my luggage and headed
for the door. Right when I was opening my dad ran up behind
me.
"Woah,
wait!" but I had already opened the door.
In front of me stood a
tall woman, probably early thirties with long brown and
beautiful grey eyes I could see from here and a banner that
said 'Welcome Samantha' above her head.
"Who the hell is
she?" I asked, obviously annoyed.
"Samantha,
I'd like you to meet Morgan, my girlfriend." I looked
him in the eye and gritted my teeth.
The words rolled off
my tongue before I could stop them, not that it mattered. I
meant it when I said, "I hate you."
And that's the
last thing I remember before the tears flooded my eyes and I
ran out of the house to somewhere, anywhere but there. I had to
get away from that place. My dad, that woman,
everything.
