I Love to Hate You
Chapter 13
I've been avoiding Liam for almost a month now. I just didn't know how to tell him that I felt the same way. I didn't know if I wanted to tell him I felt the same way. It seemed that everytime I was ready to tell him, Zayn would come back into the picture. Which complicated things even more. 
Zayn and I are not dating, and he was the one who decided that. He said we have fun together, and I totally agree. That's all I need right now. I just need to have fun. I don't need a serious relationship. Nor do I want one. 
"Are you almost ready? The guys will be here any minute!" Zayn hollered from his room. I looked at myself in the mirror, admiring my beautiful dress. It was a pretty yellow, with gems right above the waist. My hair was curled and had a waterfall braid, and my shoes and jewelry matched the gems on my dress. 
Tonight I was going to a charity ball with Zayn. But did he just say the guys will be here any minute? I must have heard wrong. 
"Zayn, what do you mean the guys will be here any minute?" I asked, putting in my second earring and walking out to the living room area. 
"Yeah, Harry, Louis, Niall, and Liam are coming. With their dates." he said. 
"Liam's coming? Why didn't you tell me?" I asked, kind of annoyed. 
"Because then you wouldn't come, and I don't want to go alone." he replied. 
"You're so selfish." I said, sitting down next to him. 
"And you're beautiful." he said, kissing me. 
"You're smudging my lipstick!" I said, right as the doorbell rang. 
"Come in!" I called out, and four boys walked in, each one with a girl on their arm. Even Liam. I wonder what her name was. 
"Hey guys. This is my date, Carly." Zayn said, laughing. The guys kind of looked suprised, and Liam looked shocked. And kind of upset. 
Louis was with a pretty girl named Eleanor, Harry with a cutie named Krysta, Niall with a family friend, Char, and Liam with someone named Britney. 
Wait. Britney? It couldn't be her. Could it? No, Liam wouldn't do that to me.
"Wait wait wait. You said your date's name is Carly?" Britney asked Zayn.
"Yeah, that's what I said." he replied, sensing tension between Britney and I. 
"What's her last name?" Britney asked Zayn again. 
"Why don't you just ask me?" I asked her, irritated. 
"Nevermind. I thought you were someone I used to go to school with, but she never would have had the guts to talk to me like that. Plus she wasn't pretty." 
Oh my god. I cannot believe she just said that. 
"Wow. You're still mean." I said, rolling my eyes. She looked taken aback. 
"So it is you. Wow. How much did the surgery cost?" she asked nastily. 
"Not everybody's fake like you." I fired back. Take that. 
"Well, it's four years later and guess who still doesn't have Liam?" she asked. 
"Oh, so he's your boyfriend?" I asked, my eyebrows raised, my lip curling into a smile. Here we go. 
"Uh, not exactly." she replied quietly. 
"So that mean's YOU still don't have Liam." I replied, my lips pursed. 
"At least my dad cares about me." she snapped. 
That did it. A tear fell from my eye. Nobody here knew what happened. 
"My father passed away." I whispered, my eyes looking to the ground. 
"Oh my god. Carly, I had no idea." she said, her eyes wide. 
"Can we go?" I asked, staring into Zayn's eyes. 
"Yeah, we'll take our own cab." he said, grabbing his jacket and opening the door for me. That was terrible. I cannot believe Britney's back. 
Why would Liam bring her back into my life? Was he really out to get me? And why, why would he bring her as his date if he liked me? Was he trying to act like he was in high school again?
