**Chapter 14** Part 1
 

Jack looks disgusted with me. “Yeah, sure. Um. Let me try one?” Evan asks. I give one to him and he lights it. Jack walks away. “Sadie you are just as bad as him now” he yells from his car. This made me feel pretty bad about myself to be honest. I saw Jack speed off down the street for the second time. Then it was just Evan and I standing there puffing smoke. “So, we are even. Can we please go back to dating?” He asks. “No, I don’t think so. I’m not the dating type” It was true. I wasn’t. My heart has been broken too many times. “You wanna hook up then?” Did he really just ask me that? The sad part is it brings up my past from New York. I used to sleep around. “Sure” I say with no emotion at all as I take the last puff off my smoke. I throw down the remainder and put it out with my heels. “Cool” he responds. He puts out his cigarette too and we walk towards his truck. I get ashamed of myself when I do things like this, but this is me. Right after it was over I get out of his truck and get in my car and drive home. I shower and go straight to bed.

The next morning I wake up for school. I have to get ready, my new look right? Well I keep all the piercings in and the same hair style. For clothing I put on a pair of black skinny jeans that have holes in them. There is black lace in the holes. Then I put on a black bustier top. I paired the outfit with some hot pink heels that have a bow on them. I also am wearing a colorful belt and a silver necklace that says ‘Bi/tch’. I look good. I drive to school and a million heads turn. Ashley greets me at my locker. “Hey! Woah, what happened to you?” She asks. “This is the real me Ashley. You don’t know her but here she is” I say then I whisper down lower, “Evan and I had s/x last night in his truck at the park…” “What?” She replies. “Yeah, we broke up earlier that day; we both sort of cheated on each other” I tell her. I stuff my purse in my locker and my pack of smokes and lighter fall out. I quickly pick them up looking around to make sure no teachers saw. I was in the clear. “What the f--- were those!?” Ashley blurts.
“Yeah, I smoke” I whisper while shushing her.
“Who are you? And what happened to my best friend?”
“She left years ago, Ashley. This is me”
“Well, I don’t think I can be friends with the new you then.”
“What? This isn’t the ‘new’ me, Ashley. I’ve been this way for years; I am still the same girl!” I try and defend our friendship.
“Ha! No, you’re not. My real best friend isn’t some cigarette smoking sl/t!” She yells louder than I wish she had. Everyone turned and looked at us. I shush her again. “No, it’s not a secret anymore Sadie!” She blurts. Great, now everyone knows. She walks away. I have no friends anymore. I don’t have Ashley or Jack. Evan is just my booty call. And all the other friends go with Ashley. I decide to skip school. I grab my purse and sneak out to my car. I light up and pull out of the school. I go to the park and head towards the swings. I decide to call Jenni; my old best friend from New York.
