As
Long As You Love Me
Chapter 1
Okay so it's official, I am the most boring teenager on the
face of the Earth I think to myself as I sit at home on my
computer just like every other day this summer. I've had
absolutely no social life at all this summer, well except for my
week in Virginia. I think back to that week and can't help
but smile at the memory. The sight of New Haven beach, the feel
of sand between my toes, the smell of the salty sea air, the
sound of the gentle waves splashing against the rocks, and where
I met...No Hazel do not think about him, it'll only depress
you again I tell myself sternly but sadly the memory is already
unfolding in my mind. I was sitting on one of the many rocks
piled along the water just watching the waves calmly roll toward
the shore deep in thought about the randomness of my life when a
shadow falls over me. I look up startled to see what it could be.
At first I think I've gotta be dreaming because there's
no way a boy that looks like that would come anywhere close to
me. I'm nothing special, I'm average height, straight
layered black hair, bright green eyes, and curvy (that’s
putting it nicely). This random boy looks like he just walked out
of a magazine. He has a lean muscley figure, I can tell because
he's shirtless, with light brown hair that‘s just long
enough that it always looks messy, a boyish cute face that sadly
I can't see much detail since he's still standing above
me.
"Uh hi?" I mutter to him.
"Hi" he says with a shy half smile.
"Is there a reason you can over here besides to creepily
sand over me?" I ask him.
"Oh yeah right I just uh thought you looked a little lonely,
do you mind if I maybe sat here with you for a little bit. I mean
if you don't that's cool because you don't know me or
anything and I could be a total creeper." he stammers out
all in one breath.
“Uh, yeah sure you can sit here if you really want
too.” I respond kind of confused.
“Oh, thanks. My name‘s Tate by the way.” he
says as he sits down on the rock beside me with that cute half
smile.
“I’m Hazel.” I smile and glance over at
him.
Now that he’s closer I can make our his features better.
His hair is a darker brown than I originally thought, he has the
most beautiful blue eyes I’ve ever seen, when he smiles you
can see a dimple in each cheek, and he’s got a fairly dark
tan from being outside so much.
“So why are you over here all alone?” he
questions.
“Oh I just came over here because I wanted to get away from
my family for a bit, why are you here alone?” I retort
back.
He laughs and says “Honestly the same reason you are. My
family was driving me crazy.”
“Haha, well at least I’m not the only one.” I
laugh back.
“I agree, so you don’t live around here do
you?” he wonders aloud.
“Oh god, is it that obvious?” I moan in
horror.
“Yeah kinda, I mean no one around here would come to the
beach dressed in skinnies, a black band tee, and converse.”
he explains.
“Oh great, I must look like a complete dork.” I say
as I drop my head into my hands.
“I, uh, actually thought you looked really cute.” he
mutters almost to himself.
“Y..You did?” I ask stunned.
“Well yeah, why wouldn’t I?” he retorts.
“Well, because no one else ever does. It’s just
shocking I guess.” I confess.
“They must be crazy because I think you’re
beautiful.” he replies strongly.
After that we just spent the rest of the time talking about what
we liked and what we hated. I told him where I was from, which is
a small town in West Virginia, and he told me about living in
Virginia. What I didn’t tell him was I was leaving the next
morning and I didn’t know when, if at all, I’d be
back.
