Brett was standing at the rooftop, ready with his gun,
aimed towards me.
This is going to be a fight. A bloodthirsty fight. A very
bloodthirsty fight.
Confused eyes looked at each other, meeting one another- Everyone
who stood on this dead green field was confused, more confused
and confused.
I was scared, and shocked and puzzled. This was meant to be an
exit. But it only lead to our deaths, and right into the hands of
Brett.
Dylan's arm slid around my shoulder. "Don't move," He whispered;
and dared to breath.
"What do we do?" Were the only words that managed to escape my
mouth.
Everything was happening way too quickly, and time wasn't in our
grasp; it was more in the Mandeths's clutch.
"Just leave everything, to me," He was whispering; his voice so
calm, even though of the circumstances that were right before
us.
"How? What? I don't get it," My eyes couldn't leave Brett's face,
and his hands, that were holdign the gun, aimed at me. "What are
you going to do?"
I could feel a smile tip up on Dylan's face; a smile that
required a lot of mastering to perfect- the curves of his mouth
tipped up, and he glistened his white pearly teeth at me.
"Like I said," He mumbled. "Leave it to me," There was a sort of
hope and inspiring courage in his words, that forced me to
believe and listen to him.
"Okay, I'll go with what you just said, but..." My words drifted
off, as Brett's finger moved towards the trigger; his
determination so solid and heavy. "What do we do with Brett?"
I could feel Dylan smile once more, and then he whispered those
last words. "Just believe me, Scarlett,"
Scarlett...
The name sent shivers down my spine. A good sort of feeling, I
guess. A soft tingling sensation, with warmth enveloped with
it.
"Scarlett?" I whispered, keeping cool, but the excitement
couldn't be locked in. I had no idea what got me so happy about
Dylan calling me Scarlett?
"That's your real name," He whispered. "It's not Unknown; it's
Scarlett," His warm breath made its way to my neck and then my
ear.
Thats a very pretty name. I guess? "Scarlett," I whispered again;
feeling myself ooze off. Why was I so happy? "How do you
know?"
Dylan grinned. "Brett knew your real name, since the day he saw
you," A pause. "He knew that your name wasn't Unknown, but
Scarlett," Another pause, but this pause was longer. "You have to
get out," There was a sudden demand in his voice.
"But I can't," I muttered. "Brett is standing right there with a
gun, with 100 people standing right behind him; ready to shoot
me, if Brett misses his aim," I could feel a tear welling up. I
didn't know whether the tear was because of anger or fear.
"This is what we do," He whispered, not daring to move. "I'll
stop Brett and then trigger off the alarm at the door," His head
motioned towards the door, where a small lever appeared. When was
that there?
"Whats that thing gonna do?" I asked.
"It will shut off the entrances, from where any of the remaining
hundreds of guards can come in from,"
I nodded my head, trying to catch on. "And what if you get
shot?"
"Give or take," He smiled again.
I closed my eyes, letting a silent prayer escape my mouth.
"Please God, please; let me and Dylan out from here, safely,"
Cold, dark, scared and out of control; I raised my finger at
Brett, who stood there with a smile.
"Any last words?" He said, moving closer.
I nodded my head and strided at him, with a look that could be
passed as confidence or brave, if only my knees were shaking as
if there was no tomorrow.
"I want to know everything about my life," I whispered. "My whole
life," I said again. "My birth parents, my town, my friends; My
real life; How Nick took me in; How you came into my life with
Dylan and your father, Sirois Mandeth," A bitter taste formed in
my mouth as I said 'Sirois Mandeth'; the name of the man, who I
hated more than anything.
Brett tipped his head back and laughed; his white teeth
glittering in the sunlight rays. I watched at his golden hair,
looked lighter with light bronze highlights. "If that's what you
need, then that's what you will get...Expect-" His voice was cut
off with the sound of a gun.
But the trigger hadn't been pulled by Brett.
I looked to my side, and saw Dylan, on the floor, face down and
away from me. Dead.
A dark shadow stood behind him. "How about I tell you about your
past, Ms. Scarlett," Sirois snickered, as he walked towards me,
holding the gun, that had shot Dylan.
Sorry for the late delay, guys. Exams, studying and
laziness took over me.
