Chapter Nine

"So who wants to head on home?" Pat suggested after I woke up and the beach was dark.
"I'm in," I shurgged.  I was anxiouis to get home.
"I'll go" Jack stood up and stretched.
"Yeah," "Why not," "Mhmm," the rest of the guys muttered.  We all stood up and walekd to the car.  But when we got there we found a little surprise.  Cassandra was laying across the car, her throat slit and blood running down her neck.
"CASSANDRA?!"  I ran to the car, screaming and crying.  I shook her limp body and turned to the guys "CALL 911"
"That won't be needed," Cass sat up, laughing.  She wasn't hurt at all.
"YOU BRAT.  WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!  WHO DOES* THAT?!"  IO screamed and pusghed her off the car.  When she kept laughing, I slapped her.  Silence.
I stormed towards the other side of the car, got in, and slammed the door shut.  All the guys stared at me and no one moved.  I rolled the window down manually.
"ARE YOU COMING OR NOT?"  I looked at them, still fuming.
"Y-yeah," Jack moved forward.
"Jack, why don't you stay with me?"  Cassandra sauntered forward, one last fleeting look at my face.  Fire in her eyes.
"Cause I think Leah needs me with her right now," he glared at her.
"She has Patrick, doesn't she?"
"She needs her friends," he turned to the car.  But then he stopped, turned around, and said one last thing to Cass, "we always thought we could count on you for that."  And then he climbed in behind me to the back and buckled his seat belt.
Everyone slowly climbed in, only Patirck stayed near Cassandra.  He muttered something inaudible to her, then he got into the car, put in the keys, and slowly backed away from Cassandra and the fake blood dripping down her white shirt.
"What a jerk," Lyle started, "I can't believe she would-"
"Stop," I turned to him, pleading.
"No, he's right," Jack looked out the window, "She had no right-"
"Stop it," I whispered.  No one heard me.
"-to do what she did.  It was uncalled for!"
"Says the guy who nearly made out with her," Patrick threw out.  Immediately the air turned into ice.
"You want to take that back, Pat?" Jack leaned forward tauntingly.
"No, I said it for a reason," Patrick pulled over.
"I had NO CLUE what was going on with her and Leah!"  Jack glared at Patrick.
"Get out," Patrick breathed.
"You too," I turned to him.
"What?!"  He looked back at me; confused.
"Both of you get out of this car and TALK," I pulled out the keys and held them tightly.
"Fine," they both muttered.  But as soon as they were face to face, Patrick swung his fist right into Jack's face.
Jack stumbled back for a second, then anger took over and he flung himself at Patrick, screaming and tackling him.  He punched Patrick again and again, and I screamed and got out of the car.  I tried to pull him off of Patrick, and in response Jack shoved me off.  When that didn't work, I threw myself in between them.  Jack's fist flew into the side of my face, which was covering Patrick's.  He immediately fell back.
"OH MY GOD LEAH WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU DOING?!"
I touched my face tentatively, where my eye was swelling up, "I was protecting Patrick."
"WITH YOUR FACE?!"
"You wouldn't stop..."
"SO YOU GET YOURSELF PUNCHED?!"
"You didn't have to!"
"I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE GOING TO JUMP IN!"
"Jack, get in the car," Lyle had hopped out and pulled Jack into the back.
"Patrick?"  I breathed.  His eyes fluttered open, and there was a gash on his face right under his left eye.
"Leah?  What happened to you?!"
"Nothing, I fell when I came to grab you.  Just please get in the car.  Lyle'll drive."
"Okay, I guess..."  Patrick hobbled back to the car, but when he saw Jack, he started swearing and screaming all over again.  So I pushed him against the car and did the only thing I knew would calm him down: I kissed him.
"Pat, get in the car.  We're gonna stop in a motel, sleep, and then go home tomorrow.  I'll call everyone's parents.  But you need* to calm down."  He got into the car without saying a word.  And half and hour later, he turned to Jack, muttered something, and when Jack muttered back, they both nodded.  It was over.  We pulled into some motel's parking lot and I checked us in.  I got us one room, I figured we could all share it.  Boy, was I wrong.
