part 18.
"Leslie!" I called, jogging after her later that day.
She turned around on her heel, effortlessly, and gracefully.
"so, do you have time to talk? I'll walk you home." I
offered. She thought about it, biting her lip, then simply nodded.
We walked out of the school, and I followed her in the direction of
her house.
"how'd you know I walk... do you remember?" She said,
her eyes lit up with excitement.
"no... not yet." I sighed. She looked down, and
nodded.
"I just.. didn't see a set of keys in your hands.. like
everyone else.. so I just kinda figured.." I shrugged. She
just nodded, looking at her notebook.
"so.. what did you wanna talk about?" She asked, and
looked up me for a split second.
"I uh, was curious about why you ran off, today, during
lunch." I said cautiously. Not wanting to upset her, like she
was during lunch.
"I..uh. Already explained it to you once..." she sighed,
then looked up at me alarmed.
"I SO did not mean that.. I'm sorry." She said
quickly after. Then muttered something under breath to herself. I
chuckled with a shrug.
"it's fine. No harm done." I smiled. She just
nodded.
"My, uh. Brother had a drinking problem, so my mom kicked him
out of the house. Then instead of getting help, him a couple of
friends ran away to New York together, and stole kids on their way
there." She sighed.
"but, when I told you the first time, you failed to tell me
that you were one of them." She said, and looked up at me.
"well... I was probably shocked that someone so innocent could
be related to someone so cruel. Your brother and his friends, beat
us, killed kids, killed animals, without seeing a problem with, and
without feeling guilty. I don't know how I reacted then, but
right now I'm confused how you and him could be so completley
different." I sighed. She just nodded. She cleared her throat
before answering her buzzing phone.
"hi." She answered with a smile.
"no, I'm walking. Yup, Mhm, ok. See yah. Bye" She
sighed, and put her phone away.
"so, how's... Lydia." She asked, in a pained
voice.
"pretty good I guess, I don't know. I haven't talked
to her in awhile, because my mom took all my electronics away for
being an idiot and getting into the accident, and sneeking
out." I sighed. She nodded with a chuckle.
"how are you getting home.. cause I doubt you remember your
way back." She said laughing.
"I have no idea." I said, just realizing that she was
right.
"once we get to my house, I'll drive you." She
smiled. I thanked her.
"how's.. Cameron." I asked. My body tensed with
anger, when I said his name.
"he's alright. He usually drives me, so he was just
worried if I was ok, and everything." she sighed. I just
nodded.
