"they were all in an accident 6:30 this morning. They were
all drunk, they were driving home and got hit by a snow
plow.." My heart sank. I looked at Jamie.
"are they alive.." I mouthed to her. She shrugged once
with tear-full eyes. I concentrated hard on completing my test,
once I was done, I handed it in and raced out of the gym. I ran
outside to meet up with Jamie who was on the ground crying
hysterically.
"Come with me to the hospital.." She managed to speak. I
nodded, and offered to drive. She gave me her keys, since I just
walk to school to everyday. I texted my dad telling him where I was
going, then drove off to the hospital.
"how did you find out they were in an accident?" I
asked.
"Johns brother found out, so he told me.." she said
between coughs, but then continued crying hysterically. I don't
cry infront of people, and if I do it's only a couple of tears
streaming down my cheeks, nothing compaired to Jamie right now. I
held my composer as best as I could as I was driving down the high
way. I had turned on music to help distract the both of us from
what we were both thinking. Once we pulled up to the hospital,
Jamie cleaned her tear stained cheeks, and put on water proof
mascara and then we walked into the waiting room and found all the
guys families. I walked over to Jessie's family as Jamie walked
to Johns. Natalie was worse than Jamie, and instantly ran over to
me. I hugged her tightly, rubbing her back. I sat with Natalie on
the floor, she vented to me as everyone was waiting for the doctors
to come talk to us, and possibly let us visit the guys. After an
hour of waiting, doctors finally explained to all of us what
happened, and let us all visit the guys 2 people at a time.
Jessie's mom chose me and Natalie go in first. She held onto my
hand tightly as we walked to Jessie's room. We walked in slowly
and quietly. The only sound in his room was his heart monitor. We
walked next to his bed. I nudged her with my elbow lightly, not
wanting to be the first one to talk. He looked peacefull as he
slept, not moving, except the rise and fall of his chest.
"you're an idiot you know that.." Natalie said
slowly, starting to cry again.
"be nice.." I whispered.
"he snuck out, drank, and got into a car with a drunk
driver... he's an idiot." Natalie said letting go of my
hand.. she started pacing around the room slowly, trying to control
herself.
"I told you not to go.." I whispered slowly, starring at
his scratched up face.
"Leslie.." Natalie said softly, but some what shocked. I
looked up at her.
"you're.... crying." She said amazed. I closed my
eyes, and more tears fell. I just nodded slowly.
"Natalie.." I said slowly, starring at Jessie.
"hmm." She mumbled, walking over to the other side of his
bed.
"I agree.. He is an idiot.." I sighed softly. She lightly
chuckled. After a couple more minutes, we left and his parents went
in. I stared off into space thinking about him, and what's
going to happen now. I felt Natalie starring at me so I looked over
at her and she smiled.
"I actually like you.." She confirmed with a nod.
"oh.. thank you.." I said slowly, confused.
"well, I didn't like his ex, Lydia. She just annoyed me..
but you... you I like." she smiled. I laughed.
"thanks. That means a lot." I smiled back. She began
asking me questions about Jessie and I, which made me feel worse
about the situation, but I didn't mind it much.
"ready to go?" Jamie asked walking over to me and
Natalie.
"want a ride home?" I asked Natalie.
"nah, I'm gunna stay with my family, I'll tell you if
anything exciting happens.." She smiled. I nodded, hugged her
then said bye to Jessie's family. Then walked out with Jamie,
she drove and dropped me off at my house. When I walked in, my
parents just asked how the test today went and if Jessie was ok. I
didn't tell them that he was drunk, or that Johnny was drunk.
They'd find that out by reading the paper or watching the news,
I didn't want to be the one to tell them. I went up to my room
and tried my hardest to study for tomorrows midterm, but all the
emotions I bottled up at the hospital came pouring out of me like
Niagara Falls. After a couple of minutes I heard my mother
screaming for me downstairs. I quickly ran down and looked at her
confused.
"seriously." she screamed. I didn't answer her,
although I had a slight idea of what she was talking about.
"dating a DRUNK! hell no. No." She said shaking her head
firmly.
"you saw what happened to your brother.. do you want to be
involved with a man like that?" she screamed. I sighed
annoyed, and looked at my dad for help. He knew I was drunk that
night when Jessie carried me in at 1 in the morning. He sighed and
looked up at mom.
