Unexpected Kiss
Chapter 23
As I stood at the front door of my house, watching the movers close
the giant tractor trailer, I realized that I had to tell Zach
something before he left. It wouldn't mean the same if I told
him over the phone or on Skype.
Almost our entire street had come out to say goodbye to Zach and
his family. Jackie, Ashley, and Nicole were sitting on the trunk of
Nicole's car crying and saying their last goodbyes. All the
parents on the street were taking their turns talking to Zach's
pants and wishing them luck. Zach, Hunter, and Jake all bro-hugged
and joked around. I stood with Violet as she sniffled a little.
Jackie had been her babysitter and Zach was like her big
brother.
I saw Hunter and Jake push Zach over towards me and I smiled a
little. They knew he had to say goodbye, but I could see that he
just didn't want to make it official yet. So I made it a little
easier for him and walked over. He wrapped me in a hug and I tried
not to cry since I was facing Hunter and Jake. All of the sudden, I
felt a pull on my shirt. It was Violet.
"Do I get to give him a hug? You're not the only one
around here who will miss him!"
Zach and I laughed as he picked her up, "Of course you
do!" he smiled at her and she buried her head in his shoulder.
One of the cutest moments ever! He put her down and she ran over to
Jackie.
I laughed again and he kissed me on the cheek. My heart melted when
I remembered what I had to tell him.
"Zach, remember all those times when I would come to your
house when we were little and I told you that I would never fall in
love?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Because I have, with the only guy I could ever imagine myself
with. He's nice, funny, smart, loving, strong, amazing, and
he's imperfect in the most perfect way."
"And who might that be?" he asked as he armed fell to my
waist and mine draped over his shoulders. Our faces got closer and
closer until our foreheads met and I was looking into the eyes of
the person I loved.
"You. I had to tell you before you left. You deserved to know.
I love you Zach, and my heart will be here waiting for you when you
get back. I promise."
Before he even responded, my lips crashed into his and it proved
everything I just said was true. We stood there for what felt like
hours, I smiled against his lips and he pulled away.
"Why'd you do that?" I asked.
"Because I wanted to look into your eyes when I said
this," his voice dropped to a whisper, "I love
you,too."
