Life and Death

Constant thoughts of life and death,
Sometimes wishing for his final breath.
The pain of disease is smothering.
Doctors' words sound like blubbering.
So afraid of leaving his best friend,
Hoping she'll be there at his life's end.
Feeling the life leaving his body and mind,
Knowing she'll be crushed when he leaves her behind.
Seeing tears in her eyes is too much to bear.
Remembering the promise "I'll always be there."
Sweet rememberance resonates in his soul
of times when her happiness was his goal.
His last days were spent with her under his arm,
Desperately trying to protect her from harm.
Harm and hurt from losing him,
As his vision clouds and becomes dim.
"Forever", he told her, "I'll be with you."
"I'll see you and watch everything you do."
Her loving face flashed before his eyes
and she says "goodbye" as he dies.
As he passes to Heaven he watches his love,
"Eternally, I'll watch her, from above."
