Don't Give Up
On Me Baby
Chapter
3
"I know, I
know," Jenna said, hugging me as I cried into her arms. We
were sitting on my bed, practice had ended about 15 minutes ago.
I continued sobbing and after about a half an hour, I finally
calmed down enough to say,
"Jenna, I'm so sorry. I'm so so so sorry that you
have to sit here with me every day for 2 hours while I bawl my
eyes out like a baby. I'm so sorry you have to see me
like this, but I don't know what I'd do without you. This
past month has been unbelievably hard for me, and without
you I don't know where I'd be. You could be with Evan
right now, you're fuucking amazing boyfriend, but no,
you're here with me who's a mess. And I really
couldn't ask for a better best friend. I love you," I
said, hugging her. Now it was Jenna's turn to shed a few
tears.
"Paige don't you ever worry. I'm always here for
you. What Ryan did to you was terrible. So fuucking terrible. And
I'm so sorry you had to go through that. You know I'm
always always here for you. And Evan understands too, you know
that. But we have to get ready, the game's tonight and
we're cheering, remember? So let's wipe away our tears,
fix our makeup, do our
hair, get dressed, and put a smile on that gorgeous
face of yours, alright?" I nodded and we got ready for the
game. It was freezing
so we got to wear our sweats, which I was happy about. Once
we were ready,
my older brother Jake drove us to the school where we started
warming up
with the rest of the team. For the next 3 hours I'd get to
cheer for the guy
who broke me apart. Great way to spend my Friday night,
right?
"Paige, you're amazing. I don't know what
I'd do without you baby. I know
we've only been dating for 5 months, but I never wanna lose
you.
You're my everything. I love you Paige." He whispered
those last
four words and I held onto them, loving the sound of them.
"I love you too Ryan," I smiled. He knew how much I
needed him.
He's my everything. Without him, I'm nothing.
"Paige, Paige, snap out of it, we just scored a touchdown,
we have
to do the cheer," Jenna said, nudging me.
"Oh, right," I said, starting the cheer. Once we
finished, I turned to Jenna.
"Who scored it?" She just looked down and away. Oh.
Ryan. Of course.
He's one of the best players on the team.I continued cheering
and smiling
and acting like I was having the best time of my life. It
wasn't that hard,
I'd gotten used to it by now. Once the game ended, Jenna and
I sat on the
curb by the gym, waiting for Evan to get out of the locker
room.
He's a Senior, just like Ryan, and is on the football team
too.
After every win, the entire football team and cheer leading squad
always
goes to Applebee's to celebrate. Evan was bringing us, so we
had to wait for
him to get out of his football gear. As we sat there, Ryan walked
out of the
locker room and passed us. He glanced at me and we made eye
contact for the
first time since school had started. I just stared at him with a
hurt look on my
face, and he looked away quickly. Katie ran up to him and
congratulated him
on the touchdown and the win, kissing him passionately. He kissed
her back,
took her hand, and they walked to his car together. He glanced
back once at
me, but I was looking down so he turned away quickly. It took
everything I had
not to break down right then and
there.
