Chapter 31
I finished up the last of my homework for accounting class.
I looked up at the clock and saw that it was already two in the morning.
I groaned, as I got up out of my seat to get a drink out of the fridge.
I quietly crept through the halls, and reached out for the carton of milk.
I poured it in a glass, and let the cool, thick liquid trace down my throat.
"You're still up?" Brett suddenly asked, dark circles forming under his eyes.
I smiled, and placed the glass down on the counter.
"Yeah, I had to finish up an essay."
"You're good at writing. You helped me with mine, remember?"
Brett reached his hand out, grabbing my glass, and chugging the rest of the milk.
I covered my mouth from laughing, as he had a milk mustache.
"What's so funny?" he frowned.
I smiled, and reached my hand out, swiping my thumb across his upper lip.
"Milk mustache." I whispered.
He hesitantly looked into my eyes, as I kept my thumb on the corners of his lips.
I bit my lip, as all the memories from last night found its way to my head.
Courtney.
I bit my lip nervously, and looked at his hurt expression.
"Brett, do you ever miss Courtney?" I breathed, letting go of my breath.
His lips parted, but nothing managed to escape.
"No, because I have you."
"Well, do I remind you of Courtney?"
"Yes, you do." he sighed, pushing my hand away from his face gently.
"Brett, do you like me for who I am? Or just because I remind you for Courtney?" I asked, voice cracking slightly.
He shook his head, and brushed he hair out of my face.
Words seemed to have disappeared out of him.
"I do? Don't I? And that's the only reason why you're with me, isn't it?"
He cupped my face with his soft hands, and pressed his forehead against mine.
"Don't say that." he said.
"But tell me, is it true or not?" I angrily asked, tears welling up in my eyes.
He wiped away a tear drop that forced to fall out of my eye.
"I-it's true. But, you know I love you, too." he softly said.
I felt as if someone stabbed a knife through my heart, took it out, and stabbed me again.
"I-I can't. I'm sorry." I cried.
I pushed his hands away swiftly,
"Don't be like this, Carson."
"Please understand and figure out what you want." I pleaded, letting the wet tears drop on the floor.
His face was unreadable, emotionless.
I left the kitchen, and went back inside my room, cuddling in my covers.
