when we were
young
chapter
three
After classes, I went back
to our apartment. When I parked my car, I heard shouting.
I shut my car door and headed around the building to see
Ryan and Ever arguing. Why the hell would they be fighting? I
tried to catch words but they were speaking at the
same time. I became overwhelmed with this and headed over to
them. "Hey. Guys?" They kept yelling and not noticing
me. I rolled my eyes, took a deep breath, and screamed,
"GUYS!" They both jumped and looked over at
me. Both had worried and nervous faces. I tilted my head
to the side and gave a half smile, "What are you guys
fighting about?" I asked.
"Nothing," they both said. Only it was a little too
quickly.
Otherwise, I would have believed them. "Okay.
Well, dinner, tonight?"
Ever nodded, "Sounds good." Ryan just looked at
me. "You, too."
"Oh, sure." He gave a weak smile and I nodded.
"Okay. Chili's sounds good?"
They nodded and I turned, rolling my eyes. When I got to the
side, I hid at the corner because as soon as I left, the
two started whispering.
"What happens when Peyton finds out?" I heard Ever
say, sounding like she was on the verge of tears.
"And what about Cory?" Ryan added.
I gritted my teeth. What were they talking about?
"What would we do if any of them found out?" Ever
asked.
"They'd hate us so we'd be forced to not talk to
them." I heard Ryan say.
"But-"
"No but's." Ryan said.
Ever was not taking this. I knew she wouldn't. She hated
being interrupted, and being told what to do.
"Alright." I was startled and stared in confusion at
the grass. There was silence for a while, and I felt it was
safe to peer around the side.
My mouth literally dropped.
