If I
Die Young; Part Seven
Hailey's
Point Of View
When Liz started crying I had to leave. I didn't even bother
explaining to Eli and Lynn. I knew they'd understand.
I didn't know where to go, so I went to wait for Eli at his
house. I have something I need to tell him. It makes no sense, I
mean I'm dead, but it feels true!
I love him. I love the way he looks at me with his deep brown eyes.
The way he talks too fast sometimes and sort of trips over his
words. And he understands me.
I can't tell him. He'll never look at me the same way. He
won't want me.
Right after this thought crossed through my head, Eli walked in,
his face crumpled with pain.
"What's wrong?" I asked, my eyebrows scrunched
together in concern.
"Nothing to worry about," he said, "My knees just
hurt a little bit. No biggie."
"Liar. It hurts a lot. Doesn't it?"
He sighed and nodded.
"Then sit down dummy. Anyway I have to tell you
something."
I can't believe I'm going to tell him. I can't tell
him. But now he's going to wonder. I can't lie to him.
Ugh.
"I know it's stupid. And crazy, and impossible. And I know
it's definitely weird. And you probably don't want to hear
this. And it's really hard to say. And, And-"
"Just spit it out Hailey!" he interrupted my
babbling.
I took in a deep breath.
"I love you."
Eli's Point of View
I can't believe she just said
that.
"I love you too." I didn't realize how true those
words were until they came outta my mouth. Am I really in love with
someone, who isn't alive.
She let out a breath I didn't realize she was holding, and
smiled. I smiled too.
I truly did love her.
