as they lay on the lawn
on that summer night.·´ ¯

he
held her hand. she asked if she could ask a question.
"sure," he answered, scared of what it
was.
"would you ever leave
me..." the weight of the question seemed to evaporate off of
her chest.
he turned his head towards her.
he loved the way her hair fell onto the ground. she rotated her
head so that they were staring at each other; their eyes
parallel.
"what
kind of question is that." he answered.
devastated.
how could she, this girl he has
loved from the first time he heard her voice, ever think that he
would leave her.
"I-uh-I," she
searched her mind for a way to explain. she couldn't
believe she just asked that. to the boy she has loved from the
first time she saw him smile. "I have no
idea."- thats all she could
manage.
he loved the smell of her breath.
like, the first breath of spring.
indescribable.
"I could never
leave you," he
started, "when i'm with you, not even all of these
stars could count at how happy I am. happy is an understatement-
and that was really gay. but I cannot begin to tell you how much
I love you."
he
gazed into her eyes, god. those beautiful blue eyes. like the
ocean. better. the moment was right. he
leaned, like he had so many times before. only this time it was
different. for some reason as their lips connected. he didn't
feel the same spark that was usually
there.
"I'm so so so
sorry."she leaned up
on one elbow and stood. the tears streaming out of her blue eyes
reminded him of the countless times he held her in the ocean. he
reached up to wipe them away, like the countless times he had
before. but this time it was different. she un-latched the heart
necklace he gave her at the beginning of the summer and let it
fall to the ground.

she
slided her sandals on and began to walk away.
like she always regretted
he
would. she
just didn't want to get hurt, like she has so many times
before;
but
this time it was different<\3
