‘Trust us,’ they say,
as they question my every fear.
They rip open my flesh
to prove it’s all in my head
and tell me, ‘Keep smiling, my dear.’
Step off my chest
and give me some air
then maybe I’ll learn how to repair the fire you lit
scalding me raw.
Let me find some cover and heal. This pain that you doubt is real.
