Fate
A One Direction Fanfic
Chapter One
“Thank you,” I said to the cashier, pushing open the glass door and exiting the pizzeria. I made my way past the hair salon and the corner pub to the side of the shopping center where my car was parked. I dug into my pocket for my keys when I looked up to see four figures in the dim light. Three were much larger than the one backed up into a corner where two brick walls met. I craned my neck to see what was going on. It looked light a fight, or more like the bigger men were ganging up on the smaller figure.
“Your gonna get it, small fry,” said a man. I winced as I watched the man drive a large fist into the victim’s torso. He cried out in pain. I looked for my phone to call the police as I heard more punches. The three big men were obviously drunk.
“I didn’t do anything,” someone whimpered.
“You mess with my girlfriend, I mess with you,” said a man, pulling back his arm, ready to pack a punch.
“She was falling and I caught her. Shouldn’t you be in there helping her?” the victim cried. I could hear a slight accent in his voice. The big man was about to deliver a deadly punch to his head, when I jumped in.
“The cops are on their way,” I lied, trying not to sound weak. What the hell did I just get myself into? I thought, trying to remain confident. The man lowered his fist.
“He didn’t mean to do that. I am his girlfriend,” I lied again, watching the boy’s expression turn from confused to a just-go-with-it expression.
“Now get away from him. Now.” I clenched my jaw as they snuck back into the back of the pub.
“Thank you,” said the boy, trying to get up. Blood dripped from his nose and split lip, and both of his eyes were swollen purple. In a thick Irish accent he said, “I’m Niall.”
