how it all started
chapter 2
People called me crazy, the doctors gave me pills. They never believed in my boy with wings. I started to believe them, I was crazy. But now I know the truth.
January 3rd.
*Hes my angel, Hes my light, Hes my boy with wings* "shut up stupid phone" I look over, my phones ringing, its a number I'd recognize anywhere, one I thought I'd never see call again. Suddenly I don't care its 8 am on a Saturday. Suddenly I don't care about anything but picking up the phone. "Its no longer a dream." I whisper to myself as i open my phone. "Good morning Benji. I thought after all these years at least you'd learn how to sleep," remembering how I never saw my old friend sleep. "haha Rowen you know me better than that. I never sleep. Your lucky I gave you eight hours. Get out of you p.j.s and come meet me, I have tons to tell you, and we have years to make up for." "And where are we spost to meet at 8 in the morning Ben? Come on, you know this little town Cusseta Georgia" I say in my best hick voice. "In our secret spot. Bring the note I left you the day I left." and with that he hung up. How did he know I still have that? Or remember the spot. I guess he just knows me. I guess I just haven't changed. Quickly i run to the closet grab my favorite jeans and jersey. "ha i really haven't changed. one of the guys. as usual." i mutter to myself. I get on my bike and petal to our tree.
Five years later and the scenery has changed dramatically. Skyscraper buildings and highways run my our little secret park. Hidden behind alleyways and the gang filled city. We called it our holy place, because we never saw another person in our park, there was no sign of other people visiting. Ever. I park my bike against the tree and run my finger around the only engraving on the tree 'R & B - one day meant to be'.
"I still believe that to be true Reme." I jump a little.
"If you keep startling me like that you wont be around to see the next day break Benji." My heart melts a little to know he remembered his old nickname for me. 'Reme'.
"You wish" next thing i know im pined down on the ground with him on top of me "see ? I still got it" he says jokingly with a huge grin on his face. I push him off and stand up.
"Where have you been Benji?".
"Well some ones a party pooper. I thought we'd get to the tough questions later." His smile is gone, replaced with a slight frown. I feel the urge to say 'no lets just climb this tree and talk about all the other things! like we used to' but i know my heart needs answers.
"No Benji, tell me. You know you can trust me." I sit down at the trunk of our tree in the soft grass and hold his hand, as he sits down in front of me. "Tell me im not crazy. Tell me what I saw was real. or was. Something. Anything Benji." He stares in my eyes and moments pass, as the late winter breeze chills me through my clothes. I scold myself for not bringing a jacket. But wordlessly, he removes his and wraps it around my shoulders. Knowing once again just what I need.
"Reme I told you I would come back when you where ready to know. Everyone but me believes you ready to know. But maybe that because Im not ready for the risk of losing you." he strokes my hands softly and looks down solemnly.
"Benji you can tell me anything. You know that. Ill always be right here. Ill leave your side."
"Stop Reme. How can you? How can you still trust me and want me around when I just left one night? With only a goodbye leaving you questioning everything?!"
"Benjamin, I never have believed you left. I always believed you where taken." Silence. Pure silence. I get up and walk to the edge of the grass, where it meets the cement.
Then he said four words that changed our lives forever.
"Rowen, Im an angel."
