part #53
"so do you think your parents will forgive me for missing dinner with them?" pat asked.
"ehh, i think they'll forgive you." i said
"but your mom hates me now." he said.
"no, she doesn't hate you, she's just mad because i want to do something. she just doesn't understand sometimes. it's soo frustrating." i said.
"don't get into a big fight over me." pat said.
"i won't. i promise." i said.
"dev, you can't stay in the hospital all day." pat said.
"yes, i can, your here, i'll stay forever." i said
"you can't just hang out for me. go out to lunch with blake and alyssa or something. i'll be here for a while." he said.
"your tired, aren't you?" i asked
"a little bit." he admitted.
"i'm sorry," was my only response. i just stroked his bandaged abdomen, and they wheeled erin in, with an iv in her arm, attached was a bag of donated blood.
"hey guys, sorry i know i'm disturbing something, but i really don't have a choice." she squeaked as they put her in her spot.
"how are you er?" i asked.
"i'm better, they had to re-break my legs, because they set wrong. i can't feel my left leg right now." she said.
"what color cast are you gonna get?" i asked
"pink! with purple stripes." she said excitedly.
"that's cute. erin, i'm going to run home for a little bit, do you want me to get anything at your house while i'm out. i'll be coming back later."
"uhm, can you get my phone and charger? i'm so bored!" she giggled.
"sorry, i know i'm not much company." pat apologized.
"pat, do you want anything?" i asked him.
"nahh, i can't bring in the xbox, but can you just get my phone charger too? i want to make sure my phone won't die if you want to call me." and he winked at me. it looked like that hurt him.
"sure, anything else?"
"nope, that's good." he answered.
"erin, what kind of magazines do you like?" i asked
"you know, seventeen, teen vogue, anything like that." she said. "why?"
"just wondering." i said. "i'll be back later. feel better erin!" i said. i leaned closer to pat and said. "you get some sleep, and feel better." i said. he only smiled at that.
"just don't forget." he said.
"i'll get your charger." i said.
"no, don't forget that i love you." he said with a smile.
"i love you too." i said, and leaned down to kiss him gingerly. his heart monitor beat faster. when we were done, i pulled away, and he said.
"i'm gonna have to do something about that." he said.
"no, it's okay, mine does the same thing. i took his free hand and put it over my heart.
"wha-" he began.
"wait for it." i said. i leaned in to kiss him and my heart raced under his hand.
"see, " i said after i pulled away. "mine does the same." i smiled.
"good." he said, mimicking my smile.
"bye guys!" i said, as i walked out of the room. delaney was sitting on the floor next to danny, and i asked.
"ready to go?"
"yea, why so soon?"
"pat's tired. i'm going to come back later. danny, you want a ride home?"
"do you mind?" he asked
"no of course not. your probably sick of this place." i said.
"a little bit." he admitted. we all started to walk out to my car. delaney and i got in the front as danny slid in the back. it was a pretty silent car ride home, and when i got to dannys house, i asked him if he wouldn't mind getting pat's and erin's stuff together while i was out.
"yea, no problem. do you mind if i come back with you too? you know with this whole broken wrist thing, i can't drive."
"no it's okay, it's nice not going alone." i said. "i'll call you when i know what time i'm gonna be back. okay?"
"yea that's great. thanks a lot devon. my family appreciates it more than you know." he added.
"no problem, danny. i'll see you later, okay?"
"yea, bye!" he called as i reversed out of his driveway and back to my house.
